Principal Accounting Associate, SOX Advisory Team
Capital One's Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) team is a dedicated group of professionals focused on delivering top-quality external reporting risk advisory services. They leverage a detailed understanding of the full end-to-end risk management and controls process to advise on Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Regulatory Reporting principles, perform independent validation of financial and regulatory reporting data integrity and the associated control environment, and identify opportunities to further strengthen the financial and regulatory reporting environment to meet regulatory expectations.
We are seeking a self-motivated Principal Accounting Associate interested in becoming part of our SOX team.
Responsibilities include:

  • Lead one or more lines of business through our robust approach to risk management including scoping, risk assessment, control design, testing, deficiency analysis, reporting and certification
  • Liaise between process performers, risk offices, internal and external auditors and accountable executives and communicate identified risks or issues and recommended remediation actions to these stakeholders
  • Support technology and business transformation, including assessing potential control changes that may be required to enhance our financial reporting and risk management practices
  • Perform analysis, capture and report control performance metrics and prepare quarterly stakeholder reporting
  • Interpret and communicate program and control information to senior leadership including identified risks or issues and recommended remediation
  • Develop a high level of knowledge around financial and regulatory reporting, risk management, and evolving industry changes and understand the broader context of implication of reporting risks affecting the company


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in Accounting, Financial Reporting, Internal Controls, Audit, or a combination


Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Accounting, Financial Reporting, Internal Controls, Audit, or a combination
  • At least 3 years of experience in SOX controls
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or equivalent certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900 for Principal Associate, Accounting
Plano, TX: $106,700 - $121,700 for Principal Associate, Accounting
Richmond, VA: $106,700 - $121,700 for Principal Associate, Accounting
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
