Role:

Ethoca is seeking a Principal Data Architect to join our team to lead the data platform growth across our product suite of solutions and technology landscape. This senior role is visible and critical as part of a high performing team – it will appeal to you if you have an effective combination of domain knowledge, relevant experience, and the ability to execute on the details.

You will bring cutting edge data engineering, data lake expertise and software development experience with an extensive cloud platform architecture background. Expectation is that you are hands on and capable of driving the solutions and architecture to build out and support our products. You will own this – our teams are small, agile, and focused on the needs of the high growth fintech marketplace. We are committed in making our systems resilient and responsive yet easily maintainable.

You will drive the architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions and policies while owning the development data applications, services and scaling the data platform in the cloud. Maintaining and scaling existing applications and platforms is imperative and part of your portfolio. Applications are built on data that resides in our cloud and on-premises platforms so we expect the successful candidate will always have attention to detail; configuration, maintenance, security and reliability of data in the different environments as we build out a state-of-the-art data foundation.

• Hands-on responsibility for data architecture across environments with the capability to write high quality, secure code that is modular, functional, and testable
• Design and build technology roadmaps to optimize services and functions focusing on performance, security, and cost/benefit optimization
• Focus on standing up/adopting tools that will enable both internal and external customers
• Key leader/contributor in the data and software and platform and data warehouse development life cycle (i.e. design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, support)
• Understand and tune performance across all physical and logical dimensions
• Support architects and engineers as they design and build effective, agile applications and platforms
• Work efficiently within a high security, PII and PCI-DSS environments

All About You:

• Extensive experience with data and application development experience focused on complex and highly scalable architectures and applications and working with large cross functional technical teams on solutions and delivery.
• Extensive experience with cloud-based data platforms (Snowflake, Cosmos, Postgres etc. in Azure preferred), serving as technical SME for all aspects of the data platform (architecture, design, development, platform operations (prod/non-prod), cost management).
• Hands on experience with data science (ChatGPT, LLM’s, ML etc) and their implementations and deployment in cloud computing
• Extensive data cloud and data experience (preferably in Snowflake, but open to other technologies eg Databricks)
• Proven ability to technically lead (not people leadership) a data platform in a diverse environment spanning product development, business applications, data science, data warehousing and analytics
• Proven collaboration with diverse technology teams (engineering, security, compliance and governance) in order to architect and implement solutions
• Proven innovator with the ability to identify opportunities with existing and/or new technologies and the ability to build POC’s and collaborate with other technical leaders on the viability and benefits of new innovations
• Proficiency with cloud technologies (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, serverless technology, NoSQL databases), micro-service design, DevOps
• Keen desire to be hands on and develop solutions, architectures guidance and mentorship.
• Degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field including programming
• Extensive experience in multiple programming languages such as SQL, Python, NodeJS, Java, Java Script, etc. are mandatory
• Hands on SME experience with Snowflake, Databricks or similar in an Azure, AWS or GCP

Experience working:

• In a data and enterprise architecture environment with a deep understanding of data architecture and patterns for massive scale and interoperability
• As a mentor and teacher of new technologies and design patterns across diverse technical groups
• In database change management process (DCM) and experience with CI/CD
• With Source Control System (SCS) is a must – preferably “Git” source control
• Deep understanding of ETL tools
• Reporting/Dashboarding tool/s experience
• Quick learner with the ability to pick up new ideas and concepts quickly
• Top notch problem solving and analytical skills

Ideally you have experience in banking, e-commerce, credit cards or payment processing and exposure to both SaaS and premises-based architectures.
