The Vehicle Planning and Product Team are the Canadian representatives in the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP). They work with the global vehicle program execution teams (PET) providing Canadian requirements into the vehicle development and packaging plans. As Product Manager, your role will be to support cross vehicle consistency in vehicle planning activities (excluding infotainment and connectivity) ensuring market appropriateness with proactive communication to both the Global Product Development teams and the Canadian Brand Marketing team. As the leader and facilitator for execution of Canadian vehicles, the Product Manager will work closely with all key stakeholders to support a smooth launch of vehicles into the Canadian market.
The incumbent will have responsibility for a number of vehicle product programs including the possibility of a mixed portfolio across segments and brands.

  • Contribute to seeding the accurate brand message across the global organization, dealerships, media outlets, agencies, etc.
  • Ensure that all creative marketing materials adhere to strict brand guidelines
  • Conduct market research and analyze data to gain marketing insights and uncover key consumer insights and competitive opportunities.
  • Brainstorm and develop creative marketing campaigns for various GM products including vehicles, accessories, parts, services, etc.
  • Liaise with external vendors to execute promotional events and campaigns.
  • Maintain and update corporate creative content.
  • Build and manage relationships both internally and externally i.e.; CRM, agencies, GM partners, etc.
  • Undertake related tasks as assigned

Additional Responsibilities

  • Interface with Global Product Development teams and the US Product Manager/Marketing team to provide GM Canada input on Canadian requirements to ensure that Canadian needs and country requirements are included in the development and execution of future vehicles
  • Lead program reviews and seek leadership approval on future vehicle plans/packaging to ensure that there is a clear understanding of vehicle competitiveness and to provide Canadian feedback to the global product execution teams
  • Create, communicate and manage Canadian specific market intent documents for each model identifying Canadian market offering variances from US product offering
  • Provide input on the development of strategies for products based on short and medium term market requirements
  • Provide Canadian specific feedback regarding product complexity and part number reduction activities
  • Support/participate in Canadian vehicle launch activities, as Canadian product expert including media presentation and interviews, demonstrations and customer facing material review
  • Act as a product SME to train internal stakeholders
  • Review and approve customer facing literature and training material for Canadian accuracy
  • Provide engineering support to answer customer enquiries or solve escalated customer vehicle quality issues working alongside with the Canadian Brand Quality Managers
  • Support in the development of long-term volume plan for assigned portfolios
  • Interface with Legal and Government relations to provide technical information required to understand the implications of government policy changes on GM vehicle plans.
  • Ensure all documentation is kept up to date


Required Skills and Experience

  • Well-developed planning and execution skills combined with a proven technical aptitude
  • Demonstrated understanding of the automotive industry and integrating consumer insights into product strategies
  • Strong technical aptitude and knowledge and/or interest in vehicle build/component/make-up
  • Ability to solve complex problems with new and unique approaches
  • Excellent organization and time management skills to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Extremely detailed oriented with a successful record of owning projects and deliverables of high quality
  • Proven communication and presentation capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building capability (leading with influence)
  • High aptitude for efficient use of multiple corporate IT systems
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and simultaneous projects
  • Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with global teams
  • Knowledge of the global vehicle development process preferred
  • Strong proficiency in all MS Office programs
  • Availability to travel occasionally to the USA, as required.


Education and Training

  • Post Secondary Education required.
