We are actively seeking experienced, driven, and talented professionals to join our team and play a vital role in advancing our automation-focused test strategies for system-level validation of innovative optical networking solutions. As a Product Verification Engineer, you will be responsible for evaluating system requirements, developing comprehensive test plans, and executing tests to ensure the performance, scalability, reliability, and feature requirements of our diverse global customer base are met. This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and make a significant impact in the telecommunications industry. This is an onsite role in Ottawa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate system requirements and functional specifications to develop comprehensive solution test plans.
  • Actively develop automation scripts using our Automation Framework to validate customer use case scenarios and workflows, evolve the capabilities of already developed automation scripts, and drive the evolution/improvement of the Automation framework.
  • Execute system-level tests for network elements using a variety of test methods, including fully automated, semi-automated, and manual approaches.
  • Analyze test results, log defect reports, and collaborate with designers to troubleshoot, debug and resolve issues.
  • Conduct and participate in peer reviews for test plans and automation scripts.
  • Plan and build test lab environments for solution-level test execution.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members and conduct knowledge sharing sessions.

Required Skills:

  • Strong customer focus and a commitment to product excellence and quality.
  • Ability to understand customers' needs, expectations, and perspectives, particularly in relation to Optical Networks for Telecom Service Provider and Global Content Provider networks.
  • Solid knowledge of Optical Networking Technologies, including DWDM, OTN Transport and Ethernet.
  • High proficiency in test automation of network devices using Python, automation frameworks, git-based source code control systems, Jenkins, and containerized virtual test environments.
  • Experience with model-based network management protocols (open-config) and interfaces (gRPC, Netconf, Rest, SNMP, CLI).
  • Experience with traffic generation tools/techniques, such as Ixia and Viavi, and networking technologies.
  • Experience in test effort estimation, test case planning, and test lab resource planning based on product requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in a global multisite team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Optical Communications.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in system testing within the optical networking domain.

Pay Range:

The salary range for this role is $81, 800 - $130, 600 CDN

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission. In addition to competitive compensation, Ciena offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, participation in 401(K) (USA) & DCPP (Canada) with company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
