You've got energy to spare, and you do your best work at a fast pace. You're the person who keeps projects on track — who knows the scope, the fee and the deadline, and makes sure everyone else does too. At Design Works, you'll run multidisciplinary engineering projects from proposal to close-out, reporting directly to our President & CEO.
Salary: $75,000 – $90,000 per year, plus benefits
Experience: 5+ years managing building projects; PMP is an asset
Reports to: President & CEO
Travel: From time to time, for site visits and client meetings
Project types: Commercial, institutional and multi-family residential buildings across Ontario and Canada
WHY THIS ROLE
We're growing in Toronto. You'll manage building projects where our own mechanical, electrical, structural, civil and fire protection engineers work on the same job — so you're coordinating one firm, not chasing four consultants. You'll be the client's main point of contact, and the person who lets our engineers focus on engineering.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Run your projects end to end — scope, schedule, fee and deliverables, from kickoff to close-out.
• Be the client's main point of contact — meetings, updates, change requests and expectations.
• Coordinate our discipline teams — mechanical, electrical, structural, civil and fire protection — so deliverables land together and on time.
• Track budget and progress — watch hours against fee, flag overruns early and manage change orders.
• Keep the paperwork moving — proposals, fee estimates, invoicing and meeting minutes.
• Work with architects, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction to keep permits and approvals on schedule.
• Get out to site and to clients — travel from time to time for site visits, kickoffs and meetings.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE AFTER YEAR ONE
• You're running a full portfolio of projects, and clients come to you first.
• Projects you manage close on budget, with change orders captured rather than absorbed.
• Our discipline leads see you as the person who makes their week easier, not busier.
WHAT YOU BRING
Must-haves
• Degree or diploma in engineering, architecture, construction management or a related field.
• 5+ years managing building projects, ideally in consulting engineering or architecture.
• High energy and at your best in a fast-paced environment, managing scope, schedule and fee on several projects at once.
• Working knowledge of how mechanical, electrical and structural design fit together on a building project.
• Confident with clients, with clear and organized written and spoken communication.
• Proficient with Microsoft 365 and project tracking tools.
• Able to travel from time to time for site visits and client meetings.
Nice to have
• PMP or CAPM certification.
• Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code and permitting in the GTA.
ABOUT DESIGN WORKS
Design Works Engineering is a founder-led, multidisciplinary engineering firm. Since starting out in Grande Prairie in 2014, we've grown to about 120 people across offices in Canada, the US and the Philippines, and delivered close to 7,000 projects in more than 14 disciplines — structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, fire protection, energy modelling, building science and more. Because nearly every discipline sits in-house, you coordinate with colleagues rather than strangers, and you see how the whole building comes together.
WHAT WE OFFER
• $75,000 – $90,000 base salary.
• A direct line to the President & CEO, with real visibility and room to grow.
• Health, dental and vision benefits.
• A full wellness program.
