Harbor seeks a Research Analyst to join the Research + Intelligence division. The Remote Research Analyst will be responsible for conducting legal research and performing retrieval tasks in support of Harbor’s law firm clients through the effective utilization of electronic research resources and other internal tools. This is a full-time, fully remote position that can be worked from anywhere in Canada.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct high-quality, in-depth U.S. and Canada legal, corporate, and market research using a wide range of resources (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, Capital IQ, Hoover’s) to support attorneys, librarians, paralegals, and staff.
  • Monitor, triage, and respond to research requests from clients and internal stakeholders, ensuring timely, accurate, and actionable results
  • Synthesize and communicate research findings in clear, concise written reports and verbal briefings tailored to the needs of legal and business audiences.
  • Evaluate and select optimal information sources for each research assignment, considering reliability, relevance, currency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support the development and delivery of training for attorneys and staff on research tools, best practices, and information literacy.
  • Maintain proficiency across a broad spectrum of legal, business, and analytics resources, staying current with new tools, databases, and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the R&I team and other Harbor functions to deliver integrated research and intelligence, and support cross-functional projects.
  • Track, document, and manage research activities using Harbor’s request management systems, ensuring compliance with company and client policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance research workflows and client service delivery.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through participation in relevant associations, training, and knowledge sharing.

Key requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Master’s degree in Librarianship or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or JD from an ABA-accredited institution is preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard research resources for including, but not limited to, Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, Standard & Poor’s Capital IQ and Hoover’s.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian legal landscape and knowledge of standard Canadian legal research resources.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills. Excellent attention to detail and ethical judgment.
  • Proficient in research with the ability to analyse corporate structures and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills, to effectively deliver and explain research findings to attorneys both verbally and through written summaries and analysis.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, thriving in fast-paced environments with minimal supervision.
  • Responsiveness and demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and to collaborate with client’s team and other contract researchers to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
  • Reliable internet connection for virtual working.
