Mission

TAR’s mission is to power intelligence for the world. We are building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies.

We firmly believe AI should be built in the US for the benefit of all people. For that, power must be fast, clean and scalable. We are singularly focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than anyone has ever done, by rethinking every layer of the stack.

To deliver on this vision, TAR manufactures, deploys and operates off-grid energy assets with a renewable backbone. We vertically integrate to solve every bottleneck, from racking systems to power electronics to dispatch algorithms to on-site construction.

Leave your mark by powering the future of civilisation-scale energy infrastructure.

We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!

Company

We are a team of seasoned operators run by founders who previously scaled a company to over 80 people and $350M in annual sales. We know how to operate and we move fast.

We are working directly with one of the largest compute providers to make our vision come true and plan to deploy 5GWs by 2028.

TAR is both a hardware and software company, we are building out massive, critical, physical infrastructure.

We operate on…

  • High ownership. High Agency. Own project end-to-end. Great people don’t need to be managed.

  • Speed. We achieve great things on incredible timelines. We always push ourselves to go faster.

  • First principles. No ego. No hierarchy. Challenge every assumption.

  • Passion. Solving the energy problem is one of the largest challenges that faces the world now and in the future. We put in long hours and hard work to solve this.

About the role

We are building an autonomous field robot that drives rebar foundations into the ground at precise coordinates across utility-scale solar sites. You will own everything electrical on this machine: power architecture, motor control, sensing, wiring, and the embedded systems that make a violent, vibrating piece of heavy equipment behave like a precision robot. You’ll work shoulder to shoulder with the mechanical lead: they own the structure and mechanisms; you own the electrons and the signals.

This is a ground-floor role on a new hardware program, with founding-team-level ownership and direct line of sight to a 100+ MW project in construction. Expect to spend real time in the dirt at our Texas pilot site with a multimeter in hand.

To apply, send your resume and a short note about a system you brought up from nothing: what broke, and how you found it.

Responsibilities
  • Own the robot’s electrical architecture end to end: battery/power system, power distribution, motor controllers, e-stop and safety circuits, connectors and harnessing that survive dust, heat, and vibration.

  • Select and integrate motors, drives, and actuators with the mechanical team; tune motor control for locomotion and for the pile-driving tool head.

  • Design and build the sensing stack: encoders, IMU, load/force sensing on the driving mechanism, RTK-GNSS integration, limit and proximity sensing.

  • Develop embedded firmware and real-time control: CAN bus architecture, microcontroller/PLC-level control loops, interlocks, fault handling, and telemetry/logging.

  • Stand up the electrical test and bring-up process: bench testing, HIL where it makes sense, field debugging and root-cause analysis.

  • Design for the environment: EMI on a machine full of motor drives, thermal management in West Texas summers, ingress protection, and serviceability by field techs.

  • Support the path from one prototype to a small fleet: wire harness DFM, documentation, and supplier management.

Qualifications
  • 4–10+ years of electrical engineering experience with meaningful time at a robotics company or on mobile/field robotic systems.

  • Deep fluency in the electrical side of robots: power electronics, motor control (BLDC/servo and/or hydraulic proportional control), sensor integration, and signal integrity in noisy environments.

  • Hands-on embedded skills: comfortable writing firmware in C/C++ for real-time control, working with CAN/EtherCAT, and debugging with a scope.

  • Track record of taking an electromechanical system from schematic to working hardware in the real world.

  • Pragmatic safety mindset: functional safety, e-stop design, and interlocks for a machine that exerts serious force.

Nice to have
  • High-power battery systems.

  • Electrical control of hydraulics.

  • Off-highway, agricultural, or construction equipment.

  • ROS 2 or similar middleware.

  • Harsh-environment or outdoor robotics.

Salary and Benefits
  • Up to $15K Relocation bonus

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Health, Dental, Vision insurance

  • $1K monthly stipend for meals

What you need to know about the Ottawa Tech Scene

The capital city of Canada and the nation's fourth-largest urban area, Ottawa has proven a rapidly growing global tech hub. With over 1,800 tech companies, many of which are leaders in their sectors, the city's tech talent now makes up more than 13 percent of its total workforce. This growth is driven not only by the big players like UL Solutions and Dropbox, but also by a thriving startup ecosystem, as new businesses emerge to follow in the footsteps of those that came before them.
