Our Software Development team architects, develops, tests and maintains the Telesat Lightspeed System Model application, a state-of-the-art engineering software tool running on high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for the modeling of resource allocation and end-to-end communication system performance analysis of the Telesat Lightspeed satellite constellation.

As Scrum Master, the successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating all Scrum activities, removing roadblocks, and promoting effective communication and collaboration within 2 scrum teams, one mainly consisting of Software Developers and the other team responsible for Quality Assurance. The Scrum Master will be responsible for coaching team members on agile methodology within the scrum framework, increasing the capacity for the teams to self-organize. The Scrum master will engage in technical relationships with other teams within Telesat and contribute to the Scrum of Scrums, following SAFe, as a key member to help provide status updates and define dependencies.

Main Responsibilities

• Support the software development of the System Model suite, to improve its fitness as an operational production engine for business applications running on an HPC infrastructure, within varied software development environments including C++, GO, Java, Python, and MATLAB.
• Facilitate Scrum ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
• Coach team members in Agile methodologies and guide the teams to be more self-organizing.
• Lead iteration and reflection on Agile practices used.
• Collaborate with the product owner to prioritize and manage the product backlogs, ensuring that they are well-defined, organized, and achievable.
• Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles both within and outside of the teams.

Education and Experience Required

• 5+ years as Scrum Master for software development teams strongly desired.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• Scrum Master certification (CSM or PSM) is strongly desired.
• Extensive understanding of Agile for software development, including Scrum and SAFe
• Extensive understanding of Software Development Lifecycle methodologies
• Solid understanding of software development, prior development experience is strongly desired.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers.
• Experience with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation.
• Ability to prioritize opportunities, needs and resources.
• An aptitude for and interest in complex technology;
• Fluent in English, written and oral. French is an asset.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
