Role Overview

The Scrum Master is responsible for supporting one or more Agile teams in delivering high quality software solutions through effective facilitation of Scrum practices and Agile principles. This role focuses on enabling teams to be self organizing, productive, and aligned with sprint goals, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

The Scrum Master works closely with Product Owners, Development Teams, and key stakeholders to guide Agile ceremonies, remove impediments, manage delivery risks, and ensure smooth execution. In addition, the Scrum Master represents the team in Scrum of Scrums, coordinating cross team dependencies and ensuring alignment across multiple teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives, ensuring adherence to Scrum framework and Agile best practices.

• Enable teams to meet sprint commitments, delivery timelines, and quality standards.

• Identify, remove, and proactively escalate impediments and risks impacting team progress.

• Promote self organization, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.

• Track, analyze, and communicate Agile metrics such as velocity, burndown, capacity, and sprint progress to drive transparency and improvement.

• Support the Product Owner with backlog refinement, sprint readiness, and prioritization.

• Ensure user stories meet Definition of Ready (DoR) and Definition of Done (DoD).

• Participate in Scrum of Scrums to manage cross team dependencies and resolve inter team challenges.

• Collaborate with other Scrum Masters to ensure effective coordination across teams.

• Provide regular updates on delivery status, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders.

• Coach team members on Agile principles and Scrum practices, reinforcing consistent adoption across teams.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Required bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Proven experience as a Scrum Master or in a similar agile role. Experience working in agile environments and with cross-functional teams is highly preferred.

• Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I, or equivalent) is required. Additional agile certifications (e.g., SAFe, AgilePM) are a plus.

• Strong understanding of Scrum and agile methodologies.

• Excellent facilitation, coaching, and mentoring skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address and resolve impediments.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency with agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello).

• Effectively facilitated all Scrum ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand ups, Reviews, Retrospectives) with minimal disruption and increasing team engagement.

• Identified key impediments, risks, and cross team dependencies, with an initial plan to address them.

• Established visibility into Agile metrics such as velocity, burndown, and sprint progress.

31–60 Days – Stabilize Delivery and Drive Consistency

• The team is consistently meeting sprint commitments with improved predictability and reduced carryover.

• Noticeable improvement in impediment resolution time, with blockers being proactively identified and removed.

• Strong collaboration with the Product Owner on backlog refinement, sprint readiness, and prioritization.

• User stories consistently meeting Definition of Ready (DoR) and Definition of Done (DoD).

• Active participation in Scrum of Scrums, with clear communication of cross team risks and dependencies.

• Teams begin demonstrating self organization and ownership of delivery outcomes.

61–90 Days – Optimize, Coach, and Influence at Scale

• Achieved stable velocity and predictable delivery flow, aligned with sprint goals and quality standards.

• Driven measurable improvements in team engagement, morale, and collaboration.
