It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 50+ million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world's relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.
Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We've been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.
The Role
The Business Intelligence (BI) Engineering team at Cash App builds trust, inspires confidence, and increases utility in the data used to drive the Cash App organization. We do this by developing a world-class BI and data engineering team that fosters robust data pipelines and governance with a partner-service mindset. Our BI Engineers own core data strategy and infrastructure, impacting everything from data architecture and modeling to tooling and optimization.
You'll be part of our Third Party Reporting (3PR) team, which specializes in delivering external data reporting solutions. Given Cash's status as a publicly traded fintech company, there's a constant stream of requests for data, reports, and metrics from external regulators, banking partners, and legal entities. The 3PR team collaborates across different teams at Block, engaging with counsel, compliance and various engineering teams to fulfill these high-impact requests. Our full-stack BI Engineers develop comprehensive reporting solutions, proactively innovating and adaptively responding to business needs. This involves everything from scoping and refining requirements to constructing robust data infrastructures and developing self-service reports and tools to address regulatory data requirements.
You Will

  • Build on and promote an effective data strategy, including developing processes, policy, and infrastructure to help standardize business and product metric definitions
  • Develop and own key components of the data pipeline, both creating new and optimizing existing data models, translating product signals to analytical insights
  • Enable others to efficiently self-serve by building dashboards, self-serve reporting, and automated tooling solutions that make it simpler and faster for them to do so
  • Operate across wide range of cross-functional teams and work to understand their needs in order to build the most effective solution

You Have

  • Background/knowledge in Computer Science, Applied Math, Engineering, Statistics, or something comparable. Experience with marketing teams and data preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of industry experience building complex, scalable ETLs for a variety of different business and product use cases
  • A strategic mindset that drives technical excellence while building consensus with multiple stakeholders and partners
  • An interest in advancing Cash App's vision of building products for economic empowerment - this should be something that legitimately excites you
  • Experience with compliance and/or regulatory reporting

Technologies We Use and Teach

  • SQL (MySQL, Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.)
  • Airflow and Prefect
  • Python
