Job Summary:

This role acts as a subject matter expert in Azure Data Fabric to support the evolving data needs of Central 1. The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud-based data pipelines and integration solutions that enable secure, compliant, and actionable insights, supporting our mission of delivering exceptional financial services to our members. 

 

This role collaborates with product owners, business intelligence teams, financial analysts, and IT stakeholders to build data platforms that empower data-driven decisions, enhance member experiences, and ensure regulatory compliance. 

 

What you'll be doing: 

  • Design, Develop, and maintain scalable, secure data pipelines on Azure Data Fabric using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and similar tools 
  • Create and manage data pipelines to ingest, process, and store data from various sources. 
  • Integrate data from various source systems like payments systems, loan origination systems, and CRM data into a unified Azure Data Fabric for comprehensive analytics. 
  • Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance regulations across all Azure data environments. 
  • Document data solutions, processes, and best practices. 
  • Troubleshoots and resolves any data incidents and system disruptions 
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members and stakeholders. 
  • Ensures all incidents are triaged, responded to and resolved in accordance with established standards and agreements  
  • Collaborate with data governance teams to enforce data quality standards, lineage tracking, and metadata management within the Azure ecosystem.
  • Optimize data workflows for performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability in cloud environments, supporting the unique operational needs of a credit union. 
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of data solutions. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues. 
  • Support self-service data access initiatives, empowering business teams to extract insights securely and efficiently. 
  • Participate in data architecture reviews, contributing to the development of data lakes, data warehouses, and data mesh solutions that align with member-centric strategies. 
  • Develop, publish, and schedule Power BI reports and dashboards as per business requirements. 
  • Design user-friendly reports and visualizations that provide actionable insights. 
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate them into technical specifications. 
  • Build efficient data models using Azure Fabric and Power BI best practices for performance and usability. 
  • Create DAX queries and functions to support reporting needs. 
  • Maintain and optimize existing Power BI solutions, ensuring data accuracy and performance. 
  • Perform data analysis and troubleshooting to resolve data integrity and performance issues. 
  • Stay current with Azure innovations and financial industry best practices, ensuring our data solutions remain cutting-edge and compliant. 
  • Maintain a high level of quality and attention to detail, ensures all changes are implemented into production and do not generate any foreseeable incidents. 
  • Performs other duties as required to deliver exceptional service and to support Central’s business goals 
  • Participate in 24x7 on call responsibilities 

What you'll have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering roles, with Azure cloud expertise.
  • Strong proficiency in Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft SQL Server Database, and Azure Blob Storage. 
  • Skilled in SQL, Python for building data transformation workflows 
  • Experience building data lakes and data warehouses optimized for payments and financial services data analytics. 
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines, data partitioning strategies 
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices for data solutions using Bitbucket, Argo and Azure DevOps, with a focus on automation and deployment efficiency. 
  • Experience integrating financial data systems and handling PII in accordance with financial regulations.  
  • Proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Gateway. 
  • Strong skills in DAX, Power Query (M Language), and data modeling. 
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Azure SQL). 
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications. 
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of IT operations and processes 
  • Well-developed analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management skills. 
  • Familiarity using Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with technical teams and other co-workers, work to schedules, and adapt easily to changing priorities and business needs 

Nice to Have: 

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or equivalent certifications. 
  • Microsoft Power BI certification: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst. 
  • Knowledge of Python or R for advanced analytics. 
  • Experience integrating Power BI with other Microsoft products (e.g., Teams, SharePoint). 
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps).
  • Previous experience working with credit unions, banks, or financial institutions. 
  • Good understanding of Problem, Incident and Change Management (ITIL Certification is preferred
