The Opportunity
Our Diagnostics business currently has an opportunity for the role of Senior Data/Software Engineer. This position works out of our Lake Forest, IL location in the Core Diagnostics Division. The Senior Data/Software Engineer will lead the design and development of software code, unit tests, and integration tests for features of a subsystem. This role involves leading medium-sized or multiple medium projects, providing technical expertise, and mentoring junior engineers.
What You’ll Work On
- Lead the design and development of software code, unit tests, and integration tests for a feature of a subsystem.
- Lead medium-sized or multiple medium projects.
- Work independently on complex project activities within the discipline area.
- Troubleshoot and recommend solutions for complex issues.
- Own software engineering design and implementation for one or more application features in the system.
- Define code-level application programming interfaces and strategies for unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing for one or more features.
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for one or more features.
- Define feature evolution, branching, integration, and deployment strategy.
- Define the structure of the source code files for one or more features.
- Ensure successful integration of one or more features in the continuous integration environment.
- Review testing strategy and test protocols for one or more features.
- Implement hardware/interface simulation for one or more features.
- Analyze user needs, product requirements, and software requirements, providing input to the System Engineer.
- Define low-level (detailed) design for the feature based on the high-level design and cross-cutting architecture.
- Author feature description, design, and technical specification artifacts.
- Interface with Global Service and other cross-functional teams to respond to customer complaints and on-market issues in a timely fashion.
- Provide engineering effort estimates for major/complex feature changes or enhancement requests.
- Support project management through effort estimates and status updates.
- Lead feature technical teams.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.
- Follow defined software development lifecycle procedures and Abbott's quality system procedures.
- Act as a subject matter expert in application layer best practices and governing development procedures.
- Mentor junior engineers on Abbott and local processes and practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with 6-8 years of related experience, Master's Degree with 4+ years of related experience, or Associate's Degree with 10+ years of related experience.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to recommend solutions.
- Independent and strong software technical expert capable of leading a feature team.

The base pay for this position is
$85,300.00 – $170,700.00
