Job Summary

In this senior director role, you will Lead claims function for the Individual Disability Insurance (IDI) line of business, improving and modernizing guidelines and standards to ensure the validity thoroughly investigated disability decisions and ongoing management of disability claims are made with an eye on reserve liability and organizational needs.

  • Responsible for managing the work environment, identifying workforce needs and ensuring alignment with corporate manager expectations, values, and vision.

  • Collaborate with other members of the IDI Leadership team to ensure alignment to business unit strategy. 

  • Lead department operations and personnel to meet goals in claim decision accuracy, thorough investigations, reserve, and payment.

  • Ensure appropriate application of contract provisions for individual disability income, business disability and LTD (when both LTD and IDI are present) contracts for individually underwritten, guarantee issue and graduate medical education business.      

  • Develop and implement disability management strategies in partnership with the VP Individual Disability and the reinsurer and in alignment with IDI industry best practices.

  • Participate in and influence industry study groups regarding individual disability claims.

  • Monitor IDI claim activity with a focus on early identification of patterns and trends in newly filed claims. Direct department to meet planned goals while effectively managing the budget. Direct systems and workflow changes to meet claims department and/or division objectives.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in working specifically in LTD -or- IDI claims is required.

  • 5 years of leadership experience in LTD -or- IDI claims is required.

  • Proven experience coordinating cross-departmental work and communications to meet claim management goals.

  • Experience participating in product development as it relates to claims functionality.

  • Experience developing and managing a fully trained staff capable of providing effective claim service in an often changing business and legal environment.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

$127,500.00 - $203,500.00
