What you’ll do

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting Operations, IT and Retail, the Senior Financial Analyst will play a key role within a dynamic accounting team.  This position utilizes strong technical accounting knowledge to provide guidance on complex accounting issues within the Canadian Tire family of companies.  This position also plays an important role in the support finance provides to our business partners.  In addition, the incumbent will analyze the output of how others have recorded data and investigate anomalies and discrepancies to ensure accurate corporate reporting and adherence to accounting standards. 

  • Ensure the financial results are in compliance with IFRS and provide accurate and timely reports and analysis to Management on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Analyze significant variances, key metrics, and business trends. Present findings to managers and senior management.
  • Provide accounting guidance on capitalization of intangible assets and determine appropriate treatment of financial transactions in accordance with IFRS.
  • Analyze and implement the impact of business contracts and/or regulatory and accounting changes to processes and controls.
  • Execute the impact of business decisions while following Accounting & Regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Advise on more complex accounting treatment of transactions with focus on intangible assets, non property leases and contracts.
  • Identify and execute complex process improvements, including demonstrated experience developing or auditing complex accounting models or valuations.
  • Execute and maintain documentation of financial decisions, controls and processes including accounting memos.
  • Provide guidance and accounting expertise to other team members.
  • Build and deliver content for presentations that clearly articulate the subject and tell the story, including presenting to the senior leadership team.

What you bring

  • University degree in Accounting or Finance areas.
  • CPA designation required or equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience with a public accounting firm or a medium/large company at a Senior Accountant level proven ability to successfully lead other team members.
  • Solid financial and IFRS technical skills and ability to apply to various business scenarios.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and strategic thinking skills; able to see the “big picture” in a complex business environment.
  • Natural curiosity to understand the reason behind transactions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment responsive to changing business requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Advanced PC skills including Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft accounting system and HFM is an asset.
  • Familiarity with internal and external audit processes.
