Purpose of Job
The Senior Government Marketing Communications Manager at Telesat is a key player in shaping the company’s brand narrative for our government and defence customers globally.
As a creative, accomplished storyteller, you will plan and develop short- and long-form narratives and impactful content that resonates with our target audiences to drive prospect engagement. Content developed will include white papers, e-books, case studies, blogs, web copy, social media posts, outbound e-mails, digital advertising, and more.
This role requires an English-language writer who considers and understands various buyer personas, their perspectives and pain points, and can create content that articulates value at each stage of the buying journey.
Main Responsibilities:
Collaboration and content strategy
- Build relationships and work collaboratively with product, product marketing, market intelligence, and sales teams to understand business goals; develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy aligned with Telesat’s business objectives.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of our prospective government and defence audiences and create compelling content that resonates with the various personas within each audience.
- Identify key themes, topics and differentiated messaging that is tailored for government and defence prospects in Canada, in the U.S., and globally.
- Contribute to the overall audience engagement strategy and content marketing calendar, ensuring that government and defence content is developed and promoted in alignment with industry and customer events, and with internal objectives.
Content creation
- Interview Telesat subject matter experts, monitor competitor content positioning and value propositions, and keep up with industry trends to develop unique and differentiated messaging and content for government and defence markets.
- Create marketing content that translates technical capabilities into simple, compelling stories that clearly communicate the value of Telesat’s offerings to the various personas within each audience.
- Conduct content reviews with internal stakeholders to ensure optimal content quality and credibility.
- Work collaboratively with graphics resources to complete final design, ensuring compliance with Telesat’s style and brand guidelines.
- Copyedit and review content for other content creators as requested.
- Repurpose content for different distribution media as required to expand audience reach in the most efficient possible way.
- Work with marketing campaigns team to track content performance and optimize content to improve results.
Education and experience required
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of experience in brand journalism, content marketing, or similar roles, with experience marketing to government, defence, and integrator organizations.
- Excellent English speaker, writer, and grammarian.
- Proven ability to interview subject matter experts, originate story ideas and translate them into effective pieces.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, capable of driving consensus among multiple stakeholders.
- Highly motivated self-starter who can multitask, prioritize, and quickly adapt to changing timelines or priorities.
- Cultural competence required to tailor content to global audiences.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
Nice to have but not mandatory
- Prior experience with insight or value-selling messaging methodologies and account-based marketing
- French speaking, writing, and grammar expertise
Decision making and supervision
- Independent judgment in planning, scheduling, and organizing work assignments.
- Makes decisions and recommendations within established guidelines and procedures.
- Exercises initiative in making sound independent decisions regarding the planning and establishment of priorities to ensure timely completion of all tasks in order to meet required commitments.
