How You Will Contribute:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Hardware Engineering, you will play a key role as a member of the Core Lifecycle Management team that supports packet optical products at Ciena.

You will:

  • Lead hardware design activities.
    • Hardware-design prime for PCB artwork changes to enhance functionality, increase supply chain resiliency, correct errors, and/or reduce cost.
    • Contributions include electrical simulation, functional schematic, physical PCB layout reviews, documentation, and working with contract manufacturing teams
  • Diagnose complex customer field failures in a hardware lab environment.
    • Lead investigations and analyze high-priority customer field failures, identifying the root causes of issues, and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
    • Cross-functional collaboration with front-line support, software, test engineering, and manufacturing teams as required
  • Help resolve manufacturing yield and component supply shortage issues for our Operations teams.
    • Identify replacement parts or devise strategies to address component-related issues.
    • Make process contributions towards the improvement of product field quality across multiple products.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s, or Master’s, degree in Electrical Engineering, with 7+ years of hardware design experience
  • Expertise in analog and digital circuit design, simulation and lab testing.
  • Strong analog circuit design fundamentals: amplifiers, filters, comparators, data converters, Electro-optics circuit (control loops)
  • Proven track record of designing and troubleshooting hardware issues in production and/or manufacturing environments
  • Extensive experience in hardware design validation with a focus on lab measurement techniques and test equipment
  • Experience in designing circuits for power conversion and sensitive low-noise circuitry
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 

Assets:

  • Able to work well both in a team and independently. 
  • Aptitude for sharing knowledge amongst other engineers in the team
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills to facilitate strong relationships with cross functional groups.  
  • Able to coordinate with and/or direct other team members to achieve results.
  • Experience with Fiber Optics and Photonic component including SFPs, Photodiodes, APDs and Lasers.
  • Experience or interest in using circuit simulation tools like TINA and LTSpice 
  • Experience with Cadence PCB Allegro PCB design toolset
  • Knowledge of automation/scripting techniques to enhance test effectiveness

Pay Range

The annual pay range for this position is $77,500 - $164,500.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
