About this team:We’re the Ad Server Engineering team at Magnite, responsible for building and maintaining the core systems that power real-time ad delivery across display and CTV platforms. Our team owns high-throughput services involved in auction handling, bid evaluation, and creative rendering—ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance at scale.
We are looking for a Senior Java Engineer to join our Streaming Ad Server Engineering team. You will be responsible for building high-performance, scalable systems that process millions of queries per second, contributing to both feature development and performance optimizations across our ad-serving stack. You’ll work closely with engineering leads and cross-functional partners to modernize legacy systems, introduce new technologies like Vert.x, and deploy highly observable and reliable services on AWS and on-prem infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design & DevelopmentDesign, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient Java-based applications for ad serving.
Leverage frameworks like Vert.x to build non-blocking, event-driven systems.
Write optimized, clean, and maintainable code with a strong emphasis on Java Collections and multithreading.
Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to design and implement new features supporting real-time bidding (RTB), ad delivery, and analytics.
Ensure that all code meets performance, security, and scalability standards.
Optimize system throughput and latency using profiling tools, concurrency patterns, and JVM tuning.
Analyze and improve application performance with a deep understanding of Java concurrency models, thread pools, and memory management.
Build and maintain services deployed on AWS ECS, K8s, and on-prem environments.
Work with caching and storage systems like Memcached, Aerospike, and RDS.
Utilize modern Docker approaches for containerization and contribute to CI/CD pipelines for continuous deployment.
Implement robust monitoring and alerting using Datadog, CloudWatch, and other logging frameworks.
Use metrics and distributed tracing to detect issues early and improve reliability.
4–6 years of professional experience in Java development, with strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
Deep experience with Vert.x or similar non-blocking frameworks.
Strong command of Java Collections, concurrency, and multithreaded programming.
Experience deploying and managing services in AWS (ECS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch) and on-prem environments.
Hands-on experience with caching systems (e.g., Redis, Memcached) and NoSQL/SQL databases (e.g., Aerospike, MySQL).
Familiarity with monitoring tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana) and distributed tracing.
Strong debugging and performance tuning skills.
Nice to Have
Prior experience in the Ad Tech industry or familiarity with Real-Time Bidding (RTB) and programmatic advertising.
Experience with Spring Boot, SonarQube, Terraform, or Kubernetes.
Understanding of container orchestration using Kubernetes or EKS.

In New York, the base salary range for this position is: $140,000 - $160,000 in addition to an annual variable bonus based on performance and company equity (NASDAQ: MGNI).
