Manulife is seeking a mid-level corporate/commercial lawyer to join our in-house legal team and support our sophisticated global reinsurance function. Through this role, you will have a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the growth and profitability of the company while deepening your expertise in a highly specialized and impactful area of insurance law.

Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Counsel, Reinsurance, the successful candidate will have relevant experience in the financial services industry, strong technical skills and a desire to work in a collaborative and agile environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear, practical legal advice on corporate and reinsurance matters.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support corporate and reinsurance transactions, capital management objectives, and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Advise on the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures.

  • Monitor and assess legal and regulatory developments.

  • Utilize AI and other tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the legal function.

Required Qualifications:

  • Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.).

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant legal experience with a law firm or financial institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous corporate, insurance and/or reinsurance law experience

  • Financial literacy, commercial judgment and ability to deliver practical, business-focused legal advice

  • Excellent legal drafting, communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong understanding of risk management and corporate governance principles.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.

  • High degree of adaptability and professionalism.

  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment.

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and AI-enabled productivity tools

Working Arrangement

Salary range is expected to be between

$129,300.00 CAD - $215,500.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
