Summary

As a Senior Business Development Manager for New and Emerging Business (NEB) accounts, you will identify new business opportunities aligned with company strategy. Your primary focus will be to identify new accounts and customers that could benefit from a partnership with Novanta. You will develop relationships with decision-makers (both technical and non-technical) at these accounts to uncover new opportunities and motivate the decision to purchase from Novanta.

Occasionally, you will be called on to find or manage projects at existing accounts managed by a colleague or peer. Your efforts will aim to increase the company's market share and revenue. You will exclusively search for new businesses that create long-lasting annuity business, such as OEMs engaged in multi-year sustained production in growing markets.

In your senior role, you will support the New and Emerging Business Team with sales and technical training to ensure your success is scalable to the team’s broader success. You will lead the coordination of company events like tradeshows and training sessions. Additionally, you will serve as a key relationship manager for our strategic partnerships.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Seek and analyze potential customers, screening for viability and fit with Novanta using tools like ZoomInfo, LinkedIn, trade publications, tradeshows, industry events, and personal networks.
  • Evaluate a prospect’s market standing, funding/ownership, and technology to determine fit.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers in target accounts, consistently secure meetings and face-to-face access.
  • Explore new business opportunities, develop solutions, negotiate, and close deals; leverage internal resources (engineering) as needed but remain largely self-sufficient.
  • Lead introductory and technical meetings to showcase Novanta’s capabilities and identify customer challenges that Novanta products can address.
  • Uncover and validate customer forecasts for New Product Introductions (NPI), advising Novanta on product launch timelines and volume ramps over multi-year periods. Validate this information by integrating multiple internal and external sources to ensure accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) to maintain organization and professionalism in a dynamic, critical role.
  • Manages business activities and opportunities in a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software platform; Salesforce preferred.
  • Aids to skill up NEB team competence in sales and technical disciplines by training team members and working one-on-one with them at the discretion of the NEB Director.
  • Leads and coordinates company events like tradeshows, sales meetings, customer events, etc.
  • Build and maintain relationships with strategic partners.

 

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

  • Understand and have a successful track record in high-tech, B2B, OEM sales.
  • Have a background in motion control and automation technologies, including stages, actuators, motors, linear bearings, and ballscrews.
  • Quickly and efficiently create presentations and proposals with technical and commercial information.
  • Deliver strong, persuasive presentations and proposals to individuals, small groups, and broader audiences.
  • Develop and implement effective sales strategies to achieve revenue and market share targets.
  • Demonstrate strategic and creative thinking, and perform well under pressure.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborate with a team while also demonstrating self-sufficiency.
  • Confident working in professional relationships across the seniority level internally at Novanta and externally at customers; from Individual Contributors to C-Suite.

 

Travel Requirements   

  • This position requires extensive travel within the assigned region.
  • Expect to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight stays.
  • Travel will primarily be within the state, with occasional trips out of state
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel on short notice and adapt to changing schedules.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The base pay for this position is $133,000 to $165,000 per year depending on the geographic market.
  • This position provides an opportunity for competitive quarterly sales compensation based on achievement to plan.
