As a Senior Paralegal, you will be assisting the in-house legal department in the practice areas of: Claims Litigation, Underwiting, Corporate Commercial, Compliance, Technology, IT, Procurement, Privacy, Employment/HR; Marketing; and Real Estate. You understand the financial services/lender space: banks and credit unions and are curious about data and fintech advances.

HERE’S HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Provide casefile support for the claims litigation team (managing case files, dealing with clients and opposing counsel where needed)

  • Cross-train with the Underwriting team to understand the residential and commercial underwriting process and provide support where needed

  • Maintain and update internal legal files and documents

  • Accurately review, proofread and assist with any materials, including documents, reports, memos, briefings, presentations, forms and other items ensuring accuracy and completeness

  • Provide support to all areas within the legal department including claims, underwriting, corporate, compliance, employment, technology, IT procurement, privacy, and other commercial contracts

  • Attend and participate in department meetings

  • Perform corporate and commercial transactions including contract preparation and negotiation

  • Update relevant legislation

  • Perform general administrative tasks

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 7 – 10 years’ experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant in Ontario, in a law firm or corporate environment is required 

  • Post-secondary education in the legal field

  • Experience and proficiency in the financial institutional/lender space (ie: banks, credit unions, private lenders)

  • Previous experience in the technology area (ie: software platform provider, data services) is also considered an asset

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Self-starter attributes, be proactive and have the ability to take initiative with sound business acumen

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Have strong organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail

  • Are results-oriented, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, effectively manage several projects simultaneously and be comfortable having to pivot as needed
