ABOUT THE TEAM

At Mural, we’re reimagining how teams think and create together. The Design and Research team brings clarity to complexity, shaping experiences that help people collaborate, ideate, and solve problems visually. We partner deeply with engineering, product, and research to invent the next generation of collaborative work combining craft, systems thinking, and bold exploration.

YOUR MISSION

As a Senior Product Designer focused on Customer Insights, you’ll design experiences that help admins, buyers, and managers understand the value of collaboration in Mural. You’ll translate complex behavioral data into clear, trustworthy, and motivating stories that show return on investment, collaboration health, and productivity trends.

This role centers on sense-making, leveraging data to showcase the transformational value of tight collaboration. You’ll design dashboards, reports, visualizations, and export flows that help strategic users answer real questions: What is working, what is not, and what should we do next? You’ll also create fun, share-worthy moments of reflection and delight, turning data into insight in ways that feel engaging and human, not abstract or clinical.

You’ll be successful if you enjoy working in ambiguity, collaborating deeply with data partners, and designing tools that support both decision-making and action.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Player Responsibilities (Individual Contributor Work):

  • Design dashboards, reports, and visualizations that help admins, managers, and buyers understand collaboration health, adoption, and impact.

  • Translate complex datasets into clear narratives that highlight trends, patterns, and outcomes, not just metrics.

  • Design insight-driven experiences that prompt action, including re-engagement, enablement, and team-level interventions.

  • Create thoughtful export and sharing flows that support reporting, stakeholder communication, and external analysis.

  • Partner closely with data science and data engineering to shape how data is modeled, surfaced, and explained.

  • Design permissioning and privacy-aware experiences that balance insight with trust and control.

  • Prototype and iterate on exploratory concepts, including reflective or summary experiences that make data feel meaningful and motivating.

  • Use qualitative and quantitative feedback to refine designs based on real customer questions and behaviors.

Design & Research Team Contribution:

  • Share craft guidance with peers when helpful, especially around clarity, hierarchy, persuasion, and reducing friction.

  • Share best practices for data visualization, analytical UX, and insight storytelling with peers.

  • Partner with research, data, and product teams and contribute to improving how the organization frames questions and hypotheses when working with data.

  • Contribute to a culture of design excellence, especially by raising the bar on clarity, accuracy and interpretability of analytics.

Influencing Decisions:

  • Reframe vague or open-ended business questions into insight-driven product opportunities.

  • Collaborate with product, customer success, and data partners to define success metrics that reflect real customer value.

  • Help teams understand how insight experiences influence adoption, trust, and long-term retention.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • 5+ years of product design experience, with significant work on analytics, reporting, or data-rich applications.

  • Strong expertise in data visualization and translating quantitative information into understandable, compelling narratives.

  • Experience designing dashboards, trends, comparisons, and longitudinal views that support decision-making.

  • Comfort working with ambiguous problem statements and shaping them into clear and actionable insights.

  • Experience collaborating closely with data science, data engineering, and customer-facing teams.

  • Strong interaction and visual design skills, with attention to hierarchy, clarity, and cognitive load.

  • Understanding of privacy, permissions, and data access considerations in enterprise environments.

  • Strong communication skills that help cross-functional partners make smart, user-centered decisions.

Also great if you bring
  • Experience designing ROI or value reporting for B2B products.

  • Familiarity with collaboration analytics, productivity metrics, or organizational health indicators.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted insights and consumer-driven insights that are share-worthy (think Spotify Wrapped, but for Mural).

  • Background in customer success, enablement, or admin-focused tooling.

Why you’ll love Mural

You’ll help shape how millions of people discover value in Mural, understand what the product can do for them, and make confident choices about their journey. At Mural, we “drink our own champagne” and use our product daily to collaborate, ideate, and prototype together. This role is Canada Remote. Your design work will shape how millions of people around the world collaborate.

What you need to know about the Ottawa Tech Scene

The capital city of Canada and the nation's fourth-largest urban area, Ottawa has proven a rapidly growing global tech hub. With over 1,800 tech companies, many of which are leaders in their sectors, the city's tech talent now makes up more than 13 percent of its total workforce.
