As a Senior Full-stack Software Engineer, you'll design and develop features for our transit data platform, leveraging modern web technologies and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance service quality for transit agencies.
Company Description
Swiftly is on a mission to help cities move more efficiently. We are the leading transit data platform for agencies to share real-time passenger information, manage day-to-day operations, and improve service performance. Today, over 180 transit agencies in 11 countries – including LA Metro, MARTA, SEPTA, and MBTA – rely on Swiftly to improve on-time performance by up to 40% and increase passenger information accuracy by up to 50%. The result is better service reliability, increased ridership, and more efficient transit operations.
Even though Swiftly's HQ office is located in San Francisco, CA, we are open to candidates in most locations across the U.S. as well as Ontario and British Columbia, Canada. At this time we are unable to provide Visa sponsorship.
Engineering at Swiftly
Engineering at Swiftly is not only about writing code – we believe in creating empowered product teams that work together to conceptualize new features and bring them to life. Each team aims to strike a balance between delivering incremental improvements, creating prototypes to test new ideas and mitigate risks, and building scalable software using industry best practices. We’re guided by a mission to positively impact transit riders, and we embrace humility and intentionality in how we make technical decisions so that we best meet our customers’ needs.
The Role
We are looking for a Full-stack Senior Software Engineer to contribute significantly to Swiftly's transit data platform. You'll join a team that builds analytical products that transit professionals use to visualize and improve service quality. This work includes delivering data through APIs and creating visualizations of historical transit network performance across operational and ridership data. Your contributions will have a tangible impact, helping transit agencies deliver more efficient, reliable service.
Experience with cloud-based Node.js/Java backend services is essential for this role. We also value strong experience with modern JavaScript front-ends. Our MV* framework of choice is Vue.js, but we welcome applicants who have experience with any major MV* framework. In general, we'd love to see candidates apply who enjoy full-stack development as a means to enable you to deliver end-to-end experiences with your teammates.
We encourage you to apply if the above is exciting to you and if you meet half or more of the below requirements. Above all else, we value candidates who angle toward growth, leveraging a positive attitude and the aptitude to relentlessly seek and solve problems to deliver impact. We know the tech landscape is ever-changing and strongly support individual growth. If this is exciting to you, then we'd love to talk!

- Leverage modern software engineering principles and deliver robust, maintainable, extensible code, including by using and contributing to Swiftly’s Design System
- Elevate those on your team and on other teams through mentoring, code reviews, pairing, and ultimately by embodying and proliferating excellent teamwork
- Engage with our JavaScript Functional Group - a cross-functional space for both backend and frontend JavaScript engineers to share knowledge and work collectively towards improving our JS repos
- Take ownership of your product and code, and reflect on how you and your team can improve by engaging in team retrospectives and embracing a continuous improvement mindset
What will set you up for success
- You are excited to be part of a mission-driven company. Regardless of your why, it is important that you care about the work we do
