As an integral part of our scrum team, contribute to the design, development/coding and testing of our cutting edge LightSpeed Software by actively engaging with both the test and support teams to ensure comprehensive testing and efficient bug resolution. In addition, you will take the lead in technical discussions and guide decision-making processes and lead and document technical discussions.

 

In this role, the Software Engineer will assume ownership of specific software modules, overseeing their development, quality, and functionality. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with experienced engineers in the design, coding, testing, and maintenance of software applications.
  • Develop and maintain software modules using programming languages like modern C++ and Python.
  • Assist in the implementation of networking solutions, ensuring seamless communication between software components.
  • Highly experienced in Agile software development methodology, deep understanding and appreciation of the power of CI/CD?CT.
  • Contribute to the development of software tools, libraries, and frameworks to enhance overall product quality and efficiency.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to enhance code quality and adherence to coding standards.
  • Collaborate with the team to troubleshoot and resolve software defects and technical issues.
  • Support the integration of software components on Linux operating systems.
  • Assist in the testing and validation of software features, ensuring functionality and performance meet specified requirements. Ensures code is production ready and fully protected.
  • Utilize cloud technologies to enhance software deployment and management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to understand requirements and contribute to technical discussions.
  • Maintain clear and organized documentation of software designs, processes, and development tasks.
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork and communication skills, both orally and in writing. Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced satellite ground segment software systems, ensuring high performance

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years or more of experience in software development, focusing on full stack. A preference for Agile experience.
  • Expertise in using the Linux operating system.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages in modern C++ 20. Python also an important asset.
  • Experience working in cloud technology and microservice architectures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, VXLAN, GRE, etc.)
  • Team player with the proven ability to collaborate effectively across diverse cross-functional team, volunteers to help others and people seek help of this kind of team player.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and tools, demonstrates curiosity in approach to work, maintains a continuous improvement mindset.
  • High Detail-orientation with a commitment to producing high-quality software without compromise or shortcut
  • Ability to design software with consideration for hardware resource constraints.
  • SW development in the satellite communication systems is a plus

DECISION MAKING & SUPERVISION:

  • This role has no direct reports, but will work and interact with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position will be based out of the Ottawa, ON office
  • 4-days a week in office (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • Working conditions are generally comfortable typical of an office environment.
  • Occasional travel, including international travel is possible
