Purpose of the Role:

The Senior Specialist, External Communications & Content Marketing plays a pivotal role in shaping Nicola Wealth’s voice in the marketplace. This high-impact position is designed for a strategic and hands-on communicator who excels at the intersection of content marketing, client communications, and public relations. Reporting jointly to the Director of Corporate Communications and the Director of Content Marketing, the role is central to building trust, deepening engagement, and elevating the firm’s brand presence among high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) audiences. 

With a primary focus on developing and evolving Nicola Wealth’s new Insights Content Hub, this role drives the creation and amplification of thought leadership, segmented client communications, and media relations. Through compelling storytelling, editorial excellence, and proactive external communications, the Senior Specialist helps position Nicola Wealth as a trusted voice in the industry and a valued partner to clients. 

Please note this role is Hybrid - 2 days in office.

Core Responsibilities:

Client Communications & Messaging  

  • Plan, draft and deploy proactive, timely, and segmented communications that support client experience and advisor enablement, e.g. Quarterly Reports, notifications and reminders.  
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Private Wealth, Institutional, Compliance) to ensure communications are strategic, accurate, and aligned.  
  • Translate complex financial topics into clear, client-first narratives that reflect Nicola Wealth’s brand and values.  

Content Marketing & Thought Leadership  

  • Contribute to the editorial calendar across channels (articles, email, video, podcast, etc.), tracking and sharing content performance.  
  • Edit technical insights into compelling content aligned with the brand voice.  
  • Support the development of SEO strategy, performance tracking, and amplification through paid and organic channels.  
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing evolution of the firm’s new Insights Content Hub and overall content marketing practice.     

Public & Media Relations  

  • Manage all media inquiries, draft press releases and coordinate spokesperson prep with guidance from Director, Corporate Communications.   
  • Support corporate awards programs, submissions and media tracking/reporting.  
  • Provide briefing notes and messaging frameworks for executive visibility opportunities.  
  • Monitor coverage and deliver regular reporting (Meltwater) on media performance, sentiment, and share of voice. 
  • The Marketing team uses an omnichannel approach—you may be asked to support in other marketing disciplines as needed.  
  • Other relevant and related responsibilities, as assigned and as the needs of the organization change. 
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 7+ years in communications, PR, or content marketing (financial services or a regulated industry preferred).  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.  
  • Proven ability to write for executive and HNW/UHNW audiences, with exceptional writing and editing skills to simplify complex information. 
  • Proven strategic, client-first communicator with strong editorial judgment. 
  • Understanding of Canadian media, content strategy, and modern digital distribution practices.  
  • Familiarity with compliance review processes and reputation management.  
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada for any employer. 
Compensation & Benefits Package:

This position comes with a competitive base salary hiring range of $80,000 - $100,000 dependent on experience, skills, qualifications and internal equity.
