The Senior Tax Professional will handle domestic and international tax compliance, tax provisions, and provide guidance on tax implications of business activities.
The Senior Tax Professional will be a member of a strong and experienced tax team responsible for assisting with various aspects of domestic and international tax compliance, quarterly tax provision preparation, and tax planning and audit activities. The candidate will also apply their taxation and accounting knowledge and experience to identify and review new business activities and assess their tax and tax accounting implications, and to identify global tax developments and interpret their application to Telesat. The candidate must be able to work independently, but will also be flexible in taking on various roles within a dynamic team.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of corporate tax filings in Canada.
- Preparation of required supporting documentation for the Company’s tax filing positions.
- Preparation of the quarterly tax provision and related note disclosure on a consolidated basis and answer questions from external financial statement auditors as required.
- Preparation of regular indirect tax filings.
- Assistance with foreign tax compliance and related projects.
- Assistance with the tax aspects of business system implementations.
- Support for tax audit defense activities–direct and indirect tax, federal, provincial, international.
- Investigate and interpret new accounting transactions to determine Canadian income tax implications.
- Review, interpret and model new tax legislation globally and assess impact to Telesat.
- Assistance with preparation of contemporaneous transfer pricing documentation.
- Assistance with developing internal control processes within the tax function.
- Act as a resource to internal departments to answer tax related questions.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Canadian tax
- University Degree in Finance, Economics or Business with an Accounting designation.
- Completed or enrolled in CPA In-depth Tax Course
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- The incumbent is required to plan, coordinate and set priorities to ensure timely completion of all assigned tasks.
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
