About Us

There is nothing like the feeling of a good night’s sleep. Cozy, wrapped-up-in-a-heavy-blanket sleep. Fire crackling, curtains drawn, DO NOT DISTURB kind of sleep. Hygge stuff. That’s the kind of sleep we’re talking about. 85% of people agree sleep is a key to their wellbeing, but more than 50% of people are unsatisfied with their own sleep. Whether it’s stress, interruption, work, children, people need help getting great rest!

At Hatch, we know great sleep, and are on that mission to teach the whole family better sleep habits. Getting high quality sleep improves focus, energy, and performance no matter what you love to do in your life. We have developed best-in-class smart sleep devices with original content to help people wind down, sleep deeply and rise rested and relaxed. Come join a company that has already helped more than 5 million sleepers of all ages find space for rest in their lives, with baby products in 1 in 3 nurseries, and a viral adult smart sunrise alarm clock that has taken over TikTok and everyone from Jimmy Fallon to Sofia Richie Grainge’s nightstands.

The Opportunity

Our web engineering team which maintains Hatch.co is growing and we're looking for an Experienced Web / Frontend Engineer to join us in our mission to help people get their best sleep. The team is in charge of our overall web presence, our core ecommerce website, and all web-based Hatch account management. We need additional help to expand our platform to better serve our customers with subscription services.
You will be a technical leader, who is self-directed and able to manage and run high-impact projects regularly. You should have solid experience integrating JavaScript applications with third-party API services, familiar with e-commerce, and excited to build on a well-maintained, robust Next.js-based web platform.

This role will report to the VP of Engineering. This person must be based in the United States or Canada. Hatch is based out of California, so this role would be asked to be available during PST/PDT hours.

What You’ll Do:

Within 3 Months:

  • Become proficient in all aspects of our online presence and capabilities.
  • Work directly with our product, marketing and design teams to develop and deploy web pages and promotions that drive sales
  • If not already, you’ll become a keen practitioner of Next.js

Within 6 Months:

  • Help us evolve our stack to better support our marketing and design teams
  • Continue to build on and maintain a solid set of React components based on ongoing, collaborative improvements made to our Design System [and other sources of truth]
  • Dive into the details with stakeholders to make sure we are building for an excellent UX
  • Contribute to growth-focused projects [A/B tests, etc.] that consistently deliver more value to our customers

After 6 Months:

  • Innovate on our technical platform to engage new customers and drive revenue: this could take many forms & you will be a key voice in shaping these efforts
  • Lead our web engineering team, establish best practices and processes for development, deployment, monitoring and all other operations of our website
  • Drive a culture of experimentation and excellence in all parts of our commerce funnel - consistently iterate with your Growth,  Product and Design counterparts; sweat the details to communicate business impact

What You’ll Bring

  • Solid frontend, web development skills and an ability to produce beautiful, performant web pages using web standards-focused HTML & CSS
  • Experience integrating web sites with back-end JSON APIs.
  • Ability to work independently and drive a technical vision for the website.
  • Experience working on React [or similar] web applications. Experience working with Next.js, another full stack framework, or Node.js (on the server) is a major plus.
  • A high level fluency with JavaScript; preferably deep experience with Typescript or a strong desire to learn and leverage it
  • Experience with headless e-commerce, headless CMS, and similar/related architectural patterns - our stack makes heavy use of Shopify APIs like the Storefront GraphQL API

It Would Be Nice If You Have:

  • Team leadership experience including supervising other engineers and representing web engineering in cross team collaborations
  • Experience with Shopify [or similar] ecommerce plugin systems
  • Integrating, configuring, and updating Event Tracking & Analytics tooling; we use Rudderstack
  • Experience with web analytics platforms, from simple to complex; we make heavy use of PostHog for behavioral insights & funnel analysis across web properties
  • Working with Shopify's Checkout Extensibility framework [we have said goodbye to checkout.liquid]
  • Strong understanding of SEO optimization and organic search.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps as it pertains to full stack website: including build, deploy, and maintenance processes
  •
