OPPORTUNITY

You will be working within a team at the heart of a vibrant global software engineering organization.

The team is responsible for the infrastructure that increases the velocity of 100’s of engineers world-wide.
In this mid-level DevOps role, you will be part of a team responsible for ongoing support and evolution of our software development environment, including but not limited to scripts and servers as part of evolving CI/CD pipelines. You will actively participate in the design, implementation, testing, and observability of Ribbon’s next generation software management systems, leveraging cutting edge virtualization, web services and cloud computing technologies to drive down our product costs and drive up our margins. This role in particular leverages 3rd party (e.g. Jenkins, Artifactory, Kubernetes, Openshift, Jira, GIT, AWS, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Thanos) along-side in house developed tools to assist in the development, testing, and delivery of Ribbon products.

You can expect your time will be split between

  • Supporting global development and verification in Ribbon’s evolving CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) environment
  • Modifying and/or enhancing observability tools for monitoring our CI/CD pipelines and critical infrastructure implementing and maintaining Site Reliability Engineering methodologies
  • Linux system administration, including server installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, and managing development infrastructure like code repositories, Kubernetes clusters, artifact storage, and enterprise tools

Education and Qualifications

  • Graduate from Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering, or related field
  • Hybrid position in the Ottawa office 3 days a week
  • Candidates should have at least 2-5 years of prior experience in DevOps or Software Development roles or possess demonstrated expertise with automation tools.
  • Basic understanding and familiarity with Linux systems, Linux commands and IP networking is essential
  • Experience programming in Python, Java, C/C++, Perl, or Bash
  • Knowledge of software development methods, proven experience writing code using an IDE (like Eclipse, VSCode, or IntelliJ), and familiarity with committing changes to source control tools such as Git
  • Strong and methodical troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and comprehensive design specifications
  • Experience with following is essential:
    • CI/CD tools such as Jenkins/GitHub/GitLab
    • Tools commonly used for observability include Grafana, Prometheus, Elasticsearch, or comparable alternatives.
  • Familiarity with any of the following is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies and systems like OpenStack, Openshift, KVM, VMware, Kubernetes and Docker
  • Knowledge of deployment management technologies such as GitOps and Ansible
