Job Summary:
Development ManagerRemote – United States or Canada
About the Role:
AssetWorks builds the fleet and asset management software that cities, counties, and state and federal agencies use to keep their vehicles and equipment running. As a Development Manager, you’ll lead a team of 5–8 engineers modernizing a mature, business-critical product on a current Angular and .NET stack – and you’ll do it AI-first. Today more than 80% of our code is generated by AI through spec-driven development with Claude and GitHub Copilot. Your job is to take that further: lead the team toward an agent-driven workflow where specs become working, tested features, and prove the results. You’ll own the team’s people, delivery and health, stay hands-on with design and code reviews, and report to the Director of Engineering.
Job Description:
What You’ll Do:
- Lead, coach and grow a team of 5–8 engineers – owning hiring, goal-setting, performance reviews, career development and the hard conversations.
- Own delivery of the product roadmap: plan capacity, manage risk, and make clear trade-offs between scope, quality and team health.
- Take on the tough problems: own the process improvements that lead to higher-quality, more predictable releases.
- Drive the move from spec-driven development to an agent-driven workflow, and measure its impact on throughput and quality.
- Set the standard for responsible, secure AI use as the tools evolve.
- Stay technical: review designs and pull requests, and spend roughly 10–30% of your time coding on prototypes, spikes and unblocking the team.
- Partner with Product Management to shape priorities and turn requirements into specs and designs.
- Work with Documentation, Customer Care, Architecture and DevOps to ship quality releases and resolve customer issues fast.
What We’re Looking For:
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience, plus:
- 7+ years in software engineering, including 2+ years managing or leading engineers
- A track record of developing people through coaching, feedback and career planning
- Experience owning delivery commitments, capacity planning and risk management
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude and GitHub Copilot, and a point of view on where they should go next
- Proficiency in a modern web stack – Angular (preferred) or React with TypeScript, and C# / .NET; experience with Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience leading Agile teams (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.)
What You’ll Get:
- Fully remote work from the United States or Canada, with occasional travel for team meetups and customer visits.
- A real mandate to lead on AI – not a pilot, a team already shipping with it.
- Stability and long-term thinking: AssetWorks is part of Volaris Group, a Constellation Software company, which buys and holds software businesses for the long run.
- A clear path to Senior Development Manager.
