The Role:
As a member of a larger team, the candidate will participate in the software development life cycle. This is an experienced embedded programming position with the following responsibilities:
- Participate as part of a team of software designers at hardware / software interface, who develop code for Linux, in C/C++, Bash and Python.
- Participate in all stages of software development, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, test, and maintenance.
- Participate in the design of various embedded software applications.
- Test, document, debug and maintain the applications.
- Participate in backlog defect reduction.
- Write scripts, test utilities, and other development tools.

The Must Haves:
Experience developing embedded software in Linux
Understanding of multi-processor high reliability software systems
Strong debugging and analysis skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Assets:
• Knowledge of the following:
Carrier Ethernet, MPLS, OAM, NMS, packet switching, routing
• Automated testing framework creation and maintenance
• Test driven development experience
• Embedded software development tools (GCC, GDB, Insight, Valgrind, etc.)
• Scripting languages (Python, etc.)
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
2+ years work experience in embedded SW design in C/C++
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
