About Emerald AI

We’re at a pivotal moment for AI and energy. Demand for compute is skyrocketing, but power constraints are becoming a critical bottleneck. Emerald AI sits at the intersection of these two worlds, enabling AI data centers to scale without overwhelming the grid.

Our Emerald Conductor software platform makes data centers flexible and responsive, allowing them to adjust power usage dynamically. This unlocks massive AI growth without major new infrastructure, while also strengthening the grid and supporting the expansion of renewable energy.

We’re a team of experts across AI, cloud, software, and energy—on a mission to scale AI sustainably. We’re backed by leading investors and partners including Radical Ventures and NVIDIA.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Software Engineer focused on Security & Cloud Operations to help design, secure, scale, and operate the cloud platform behind Emerald AI. This role combines hands-on software engineering with ownership over cloud infrastructure, security tooling, and reliability practices.

You will be responsible for building secure-by-default systems, implementing cloud automation, and ensuring the reliability and integrity of a platform that interacts with high-value energy assets and sensitive operational data. This is a foundational role where your work directly shapes the company’s long-term security and operational maturity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define the strategy, metrics, and implementation plan for a successful security program that measurably improves Emerald AI’s security maturity.

  • Implement security controls, monitoring, IAM configurations, and policies aligned with best practices.

  • Build tooling for secure deployments, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and compliance.

  • Conduct internal security training, establish guidelines, and help shape our security culture.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure resilience.

Minimum requirements
  • 5+ years experience in infrastructure security, security engineering, or software engineering roles

  • Deep expertise in securing complex cloud environments, threat modeling, and risk assessment

  • Proven track record of building and scaling infrastructure at high-growth technology companies

  • Experience in securing container based environments in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their SDKs/APIs.

  • Familiarity with incident response, threat modeling, and risk assessment processes, especially in fast-moving engineering environments.

  • Strong scripting or backend programming skills (Python, Go, or similar)

Preferred requirements
  • Experience with SOC2 or ISO 27001 readiness/compliance.

  • Experience securing ML/AI workloads, including model-serving infrastructure, feature stores, and real-time inference systems.

  • Prior experience in climate tech, energy systems, or other mission-critical infrastructure domains.

What We Offer
  • Make an impact. Solve the AI power bottleneck and shape how data centers scale sustainably.

  • Join a world-class team of AI, cloud, software, and energy experts in a collaborative, low-ego environment.

  • Build from 0→1. Influence strategy, GTM, org design, and customer/investor engagement from day one.

  • Competitive pay + equity. Stock options let you share in the value you help create.

  • Comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) matching.

  • Flexible location. Work from D.C., Boston, or the Bay Area, with 1 WFH day/week.
Backed by top investors, including Radical Ventures and NVIDIA.
