Department Overview
The Cloud Platform Engineering Infrastructure Team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure and platform services, in support of Motorola Solutions' public and hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure on AWS, Azure, and GCP to build at scale.
Job Description

The Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for:

  • Design and implementation of the continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) to multiple cloud solutions

  • Development and operation of common platform services that can be leveraged by our SaaS solutions moving forward

  • Overall reliability and security of these services and the environments they are run in

  • Monitoring and support for these platform and infrastructure services

As a software engineer on this team, you will be a key contributor to platform development activities.  Our teams are developing services, tools, and processes to support Motorola Solutions' product engineering teams as well as deliver solutions to our customers. You will be working on a high-velocity, results-oriented team that leverages cutting-edge technologies and techniques. The right individual will be motivated and will have a passion for automation, deployment processes and enabling innovation. Your efforts will help to shape the engineering culture and best practices across Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise organization.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Network and security design and implementation of core services used by our Public Safety solutions

  • Support cloud platform operations and sovereign operations, including issue troubleshooting and resolution

  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high availability, optimal performance, and robust health of critical infrastructure and applications.

  • Define and meet scalability, availability, security, and performance goals

  • Rapidly build and evolve major features in collaboration with product management

  • Research and experiment with key technologies, architectures, and standards

  • Attend daily stand-up meetings, collaborate with peers, prioritize features, and work with a sense of urgency to deliver value to customers

  • Assist in reviews and audits conducted at various points in the software life cycle

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 3+ years of combined experience in Network Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or Security Engineering

  • Strong understanding of the OSI model, with a particular focus on layers 3 (Network) through 7 (Application) and their associated protocols

  • Strong understanding of Observability (Monitoring, Logging, and Tracing)

  • Proficiency in Git version control

  • Kubernetes cluster design, management, and container orchestration

  • Building and optimizing container images

  • Solid coding and service development skills, with experience in at least one of the following toolsets or languages: Golang, Python, or Shell

  • Develop quality scalable, tested and reliable applications using industry best practices

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving, growing and agile environment

  • Strong level of curiosity and interest to learn

  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to non-technical audiences

  • Self-motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment

  • Familiarity with Public Safety software systems is a plus

Experience with AI/machine learning technologies is strongly preferred.

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 3+ years of experience in Network Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or Security Engineering or an MS degree.

  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain background clearance as required by government customer(s).
