The Role
Do you love building both software and teams? Do you care about engineering culture? Cash App is looking for a technical & people leader to help lead & grow our Disputes team within the Financial Platform Issuing engineering org.
Cash App's Financial Platform engineering org is building the core set of capabilities that provide access to the underlying infrastructure that powers finance around the globeThis includes the Issuing organisation that powers Cash Card, the 4th largest debit card program in the US serving more than 24 Million people Within the Issuing domain, the Transaction Risk and Recovery is responsible for safeguarding our platform by minimizing financial losses and managing risks associated with transactions.
The Transaction Risk and Recovery domain is critical to the success of the Cash Card program, and ensures we can offer our customers a safe and trusted debit card program. The team have significant autonomy over their domain, and are focused on building platform capabilities around three primary areas of impact:

  • Detecting and protecting our platform from fraudulent transactions and disputes before they occur
  • Resolving disputes that do occur in a cost-effective manner
  • Identifying transactions that result in negative balances, and determining intelligent actions to recover the funds


As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for technical architecture, ensuring collaboration across a multitude of disciplines, and providing coaching and mentorship to your team and peers. You will drive the team's vision and roadmap alongside product management, designers, and the Cash App leadership team.
You Will

  • Build a world-class team by hiring exceptional talent, coaching and developing engineers, cultivating pragmatic engineering decision-making, and leveraging your technical expertise to constantly raise the bar.
  • Partner closely with stakeholders across the Product Engineering and FinPlat orgs to thoroughly understand your customer's needs, and help define your team's vision and roadmap.
  • Lead and participate in critical strategic, technical and operational discussions with leaders across the organization, company and external partners.
  • Foster inclusiveness, trust, work-life balance, ownership, accountability, pragmatism, and decision making in the team.
  • Define your team's vision and roadmap by thoroughly understanding your customers' needs in collaboration with product management, business operations, data, and adjacent engineering teams
  • Work within a globally distributed organization, with engineers in the United States, Australia, and across Europe


You Have

  • Have 4+ years experience in leading teams of engineers, in both a technical and people management capacity
  • Have 10+ years experience working on complex systems and delivering quality software
  • Lead with a people-first approach, can lead a conversation rather than dictate it, and are empathetic to dissenting viewpoints
  • Have boundless curiosity, are driven by what they don't know and thrive in ambiguous environments.
  • Excel at building world class engineering teams that are highly-functional, collaborative and inclusive.
  • Build strong relationships with counterparts, both internally and externally, including finance, business operations and risk operations.

The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
