How You Will Contribute:

The summer co-op/intern will report to a manager within the Solution Engineering and Introduction (SEI) team.  SEI is responsible for several functions

  • New Product Introduction (NPI) for multiple next-generation product lines, including 6500 Packet-Optical, Waveserver (WSAi / WS5), and Reconfigurable Line System (RLS), Edge Line System (ELS) and ONID platforms
  • Customer demo, lab trial and field trial activities of the above mentioned products
  • Services (SVS) specific initiatives covering proof-of-concept (PoC) testing and automation of tests for very specific applications applicable to the above product lines.

The intern/co-op will contribute to the SEI role in the following ways:

  • Use of software development skills to increase the level of automation in specific deliverables that are part of the NPI cycle.
  • Helping to standardize SEI confluence and sharepoint SEI lab infrastructure websites spread across the globe, so as to gain more efficiency in their use.
  • Applying software development skills to link detailed lab diagram updates to facilitate commissioning script generation for different product shelf types, and/or the creation of or improvements of existing lab booking tools.

Must Haves:

  • Working towards completion of Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Engineering Physics, Bachelor of Software Engineering or related discipline.   
  • Foundational knowledge of basic telecom concepts such as transmission systems and DWDM networking.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with different programs languages (for example, python, C/C++, visual basic, and html5)
  • Excellent communications skills (verbal/written)

Assets:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Visio is a plus.

Exposure to Northbound Interface (NBI) protocols such as CLI, REST, and NETCONF is a plus. 

The annual pay range for this position is $18.75-33.00

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business.
