Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Cloud Platform, the Sr. Cloud Platform Engineer will be responsible for designing, maintaining and supporting cloud infrastructure and operations for HOOPP’s Investment, Finance, and Risk Management teams. You will build trusted partnerships with Application Delivery teams, Enterprise Architects, the Project Management Office and Governance, Information Security, Infrastructure Network Product Owners and business partners to ensure that cloud operations and initiatives are fully aligned with organizational objectives.
What you will do:
Design, build, and operate secure, scalable, reliable, and highly automated AWS infrastructure. Apply systems thinking and insight to balance delivery speed, resilience, cost, security, and long-term maintainability
Lead the investigation of complex production and cloud infrastructure issues. Look beyond immediate symptoms, use evidence to identify root causes, communicate openly with affected partners, and implement lasting corrective and preventive improvements
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Azure DevOps, and Argo CD to standardize cloud infrastructure provisioning, automate deployment workflows, and enhance platform consistency, scalability, and governance
Drive automation and continuous improvement by identifying repetitive operational tasks and delivering AI-enabled innovative solutions that simplify cloud operations, improve efficiency, and enhance developer experience
Continuously improve platform observability by implementing modern monitoring, logging, tracing, and AI-assisted operational insights that enable proactive detection and faster incident resolution
Collaborate with development and cross-functional IT teams to provide technical expertise, integrate and optimize cloud solutions, and resolve network and cloud operational issues
Lead key initiatives in partnership with internal customers and stakeholders. Clarify the underlying problem, surface assumptions and constraints, develop options, and recommend solutions based on customer value, risk, security, cost, and feasibility. Take ownership for decisions, follow-through, and outcomes
Build and maintain cloud platform knowledge assets leveraging AI tools to automate documentation, improve operational insights, and enable efficient self-service for engineering teams
Participate in on-call rotation to provide production support and ensure timely incident response outside regular business hours
Drive technology innovation by researching and adopting emerging AWS services, AI-powered solutions, cloud-native technologies, DevOps/platform engineering tools, and industry best practices to enhance automation, scalability, security, operational efficiency, and developer experience
Mentor junior colleagues and invests time to grow individuals in a technical capacity; acts as a subject matter expert to guide and share knowledge across departmental teams
What you bring:
8+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure Operations, cloud platform engineering, network engineering with a strong focus on cloud infrastructure, scripting, CI/CD, automation, and system monitoring, with a focus on troubleshooting and continuous improvement
Extensive hands-on experience designing, implementing and operating cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform/Terraform Cloud, CloudFormation, Bicep/ARM)
Experience using AI-assisted tools to optimize cloud platform operations, improve incident resolution, automate diagnostics, and support operational decision-making
Proven experience with Windows Server and Linux systems combined with familiarity with Windows Server administration, including Active Directory and DNS
Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including container lifecycle management, cluster administration, workload orchestration, and platform operations
Hands-on experience developing and maintaining automation solutions using Bash, PowerShell, and Python to automate cloud platform administration, standardize infrastructure operations, and improve the consistency and efficiency of service delivery
Proficient with AWS security tools for implementing secure and scalable cloud infrastructure
Strong understanding of AWS networking services, such as Amazon VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, load balancers, Internet Gateway, NAT Gateway, with a solid foundation in networking
Challenge the status quo respectfully and constructively, using creative thinking to develop innovative yet practical solutions that improve processes, systems, and ways of working
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and adapt to changing priorities
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Certifications in cloud platforms or infrastructure tools are an asset (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architecture Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, Azure Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions, Azure Administrator Associate, Terraform Associate, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
The expected annual base salary range for this role is: $103,000 - $153,000 CAD
The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
This role is eligible to participate in discretionary incentive plan(s), subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan text.
