The Role
Square Financial Services, Inc ("SFS") is Block's bank. We opened in March 2021 and provide lending and FDIC insured deposits services to small businesses and consumers on a nationwide basis. The SFS Product team enables the bank with modern infrastructure and high-quality services, and is responsible for developing and executing on the Bank's strategic roadmap. We aim to become Block's bank in both name and practice, and focus on empowering the small businesses and consumers served by the Block ecosystem.
The SFS Compliance Management System (CMS) Team manages key functions within the Bank's compliance program for applicable consumer protection laws and regulatory requirements (e.g., ECOA, UDAAP, GLBA, compliance monitoring, regulatory change management, fair lending, training). The SFS CMS Team is looking for a Senior Director of Compliance to join their team who will report to the Bank's Chief Compliance Officer.
You Will
  • Independently develop, support, and direct the Bank's CMS Team using appropriate risk-focused strategies including the establishment of department goals, procedures, and accountability frameworks
  • Directly manage functions and staff responsible for compliance policy, training, project management, monitoring, and change management.
  • Create and present to the Board, committee, and working group reporting including emerging regulations, policy changes, examination results, and strategic initiatives, to inform decision-making and ensure regulatory awareness.
  • Provide appropriate fair lending approval of model changes
  • Champion Bank and CMS Program priorities by maintaining an effective communication network with relevant Block teams and other strategic partners
  • Successfully representing the CMS Program in examinations and other field work engagements with state and federal regulators
  • Support the Bank's ERM framework and Internal Audit engagements, rendering determination of and reporting on compliance risks
  • Proactively identify and mitigate severe compliance risks, working with stakeholders to implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Foster a strong ethical culture within the organization that emphasizes compliance and accountability.
  • Provide ongoing insights to senior management on the health of the Compliance program, tracking essential risk indicators, employing quantitative risk management methods, and identify opportunities for principled risk-taking that propels growth safely and scalably
  • Effectively guide the CMS Team members through continuously improve behavior and performance standards and deliverables using an holistic management program
  • Other projects as assigned

You Have
  • 12+ years of compliance experience in banking and financial services management, with a preference toward Fintech experience
  • 9+ years of leadership experience, with remote experience required
  • Strong executive communication, presentation, and influencing skills
  • Proven experience setting strategic goals for teams and driving a long-term vision aligned with organizational objectives
  • Deep expertise in compliance across commercial and consumer deposit and lending products
  • Demonstrated success managing compliance programs within complex, multi-tier corporate environments
  • Strong track record in partner management, including negotiation, influence, and securing alignment and engagement across diverse stakeholders
  • Extensive experience managing regulatory examinations and navigating complex banking and financial regulatory matters

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
