Staff Information Systems Architect - Oracle Financials

The Role
We are looking for a strategic and hands-on systems architect to lead the next wave of finance technology transformation at Block. This role will sit at the intersection of Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Procurement, and FP&A technologies, helping design and scale the technology stack that powers the core financial engine of the company.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in financial systems architecture, a product-thinking mindset, and the ability to span both strategic planning and execution. You'll serve as the connective tissue between finance functions and engineering - with a clear vision for the future state of Block's finance tech stack, optimized for automation, speed, accuracy, and resilience. An AI-first mindset is essential, with demonstrated experience applying AI to financial workflows.
This role will partner closely with business leaders, product managers, engineers, and TPMs to drive high-impact transformation across Oracle Fusion, In-house applications, integration platforms, data lakes, LLMs and beyond.
You Will
Architecture & Strategy

• Design and evolve the end-to-end finance systems architecture, spanning Record-to-Report (R2R), Source-to-Pay (S2P), Treasury, Tax, Planning, and Reporting.
• Drive future-state design by assessing current processes, identifying optimization opportunities, and architecting scalable, automated solutions.
• Create architectural frameworks that unify accounting, tax, treasury, FP&A, and procurement tech verticals around shared data models, integrations, and workflow automation.
• Champion an AI-first architecture, embedding AI and ML in areas like reconciliations, flux analysis, anomaly detection, and system self-service.

System Design & Implementation

• Lead transformation initiatives using Oracle Fusion, Fusion Accounting Hub (FAH), and other enterprise-grade tools.
• Collaborate with integration teams on scalable data flows, system mappings, and API-led designs.
• Translate complex requirements into functional and technical design docs (FDDs, PRDs, solution blueprints).
• Implement enhancements across intercompany, journal automation, cash flow, and reconciliations to support faster, more accurate closes.

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Serve as the architectural counterpart to product managers and TPMs across the finance and guidance tech stack.
• Partner with business stakeholders to align technology outcomes with company goals - including close acceleration, compliance, and financial planning readiness.
• Help define long-term planning for capacity, dependencies, and platform maturity.

AI-Driven Innovation

• Apply GenAI and ML models to automate reconciliation narratives, flux explanations, and financial close diagnostics.
• Use tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Block's internal AI platforms to build smart assistants for finance teams.
• Drive experimentation across use cases like Slack bots, auto-tagging, and AI-powered validation pipelines.

Governance & Compliance

• Partner with Audit, Risk, and Tax teams to ensure solutions meet SOX, GAAP, and regulatory standards.
• Support statutory reporting for international entities and build systems with multi-GAAP flexibility.

You Have

• 15+ years in financial systems architecture or enterprise systems engineering.
• Deep hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion Finance, Fusion Accounting Hub (FAH), and financial data modeling.
• Expertise across Revenue (incl. ASC 606), Intercompany, Consolidations, Tax, Treasury, and FP&A.
• Proven track record designing systems for close acceleration, automation, and finance transformation.
• Experience working closely with Engineering, Product, Accounting, and Data teams to translate strategy into execution.
• Demonstrated use of AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, or internal LLMs) to optimize workflows.

Nice to Have

• Experience with EPM tools, EDM, Blackline, or similar accounting and reporting platforms.
• Familiarity with scripting (Python), APIs, and workflow automation tools (e.g., Slack bots, orchestration templates).
• Exposure to scaling finance systems in a multi-entity, global environment
