It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 50+ million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world's relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.
Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We've been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.
The Role
We're looking for a Staff Product Designer with deep visual craft to join our Afterpay Checkout team at Cash App. This team is reimagining how millions of customers shop and pay with Afterpay at online merchants around the world. From the first moment of checkout to repayment and account management, this role is about shaping seamless, trusted, and visually polished experiences that connect customers, merchants, and the Afterpay and Cash App ecosystems.
As a Staff Product Designer, you'll bring visual craft, product thinking, and strategic foresight to one of Afterpay's most critical customer journeys: checkout. You'll partner with other designers and cross-functional teammates to take ownership of key parts of the experience - from framing opportunities and customer needs, to prototyping and delivering solutions that make paying with Afterpay effortless and rewarding.
This is an opportunity to own important pieces of the checkout journey, contribute to a broader design strategy, and collaborate across teams to deliver a unified, high-impact customer experience.
This role can be performed anywhere in Australia and the US - West-coast preferred.
You Will
  • Shape the design vision for parts of Afterpay's online checkout experience.
  • Partner closely with product, engineering, sales, ML, data science, and research teams to define what we should build and why.
  • Translate complex, high-stakes problem spaces (payments, limits, repayment clarity, merchant integration) into clear, intuitive, and visually polished experiences.
  • Explore, prototype, and deliver innovative solutions that push the boundaries of checkout and payment design.
  • Contribute to a holistic design approach across checkout, repayment, and merchant-facing surfaces.
  • Influence product strategy by framing opportunities, championing customer needs, and elevating design thinking across the team.

You Have
  • 8+ years of experience crafting impactful digital products.
  • A bias toward ownership: you thrive when given responsibility for meaningful product areas and driving them forward.
  • Exceptional visual and interaction design craft, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates customer-centric payment or commerce experiences.
  • Proven ability to drive design and strategy within a product area or complex project.
  • Strong product and systems thinking: able to connect the dots across customer journeys, merchant requirements, and financial systems.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, researchers, and business partners to shape product direction and push projects forward with velocity.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced, global environment.
