ABOUT THIS ROLE
You are a Staff Software Engineer who builds multitenant platforms that handle real money
for real people. You have done this before. You know what it feels like when a tenant
isolation bug hits production, and you have the scars to prove you learned from it.
You find edge cases before they find you. When someone hands you a product brief, your
first instinct is not to start coding. Your first instinct is to ask: what are we missing? What
happens when this fails? What does compliance need to know?
You move fast, but you make your thinking visible. You document decisions, you explain
tradeoffs, you bring people along. Speed without transparency is just risk.
You embody GREAT. You have the Grit to push through ambiguity. You care about Results,
not activity. You lead with Empathy when things get hard. You take Accountability for your
systems end to end. And you believe Teamwork is the multiplier that makes everything else
work.
We are building the next generation of wealth technology on Google Cloud. Our platform is
moving to a cloud native, multitenant architecture that lets any firm, from a startup to a
global bank, launch and scale digital investing experiences on our rails.
AI is central to how we will get there. Not as hype, but as engineering leverage. We are
building systems that use AI to validate architecture, enforce compliance, detect drift, and
accelerate every phase of development, all with the guardrails and governance that financial
services demand.
The person in this role will shape both: the platform that serves millions of investors, and
the engineering practices that make our teams faster, safer, and more effective. This is not a
role where you maintain what exists. This is a role where you build what comes next.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will work with developers, designers, product managers, compliance teams, and operational staff to play a critical role in the development of Apex's multi-tenant wealth management platform serving correspondent firms and their end investors. You will be working on significant critical projects and will take responsibility for all facets of the development process—from early discovery and architectural design through testing and scaling in production. You will support and mentor other team members to improve platform security, multi-tenancy patterns, and development velocity. We are looking for someone who is eager to dive into a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment to build innovative, compliant financial products. Our ideal candidate has a strong sense of ownership, proactively identifies edge cases and constraints before building, balances architectural exploration with disciplined execution, and takes full ownership of system reliability and security. You are an individual contributor who moves fast while making your thinking visible through documentation and enjoys driving complex platform initiatives from discovery through production deployment.
Duties/Responsibilities
· Lead the design and development of secure, scalable multi-tenant systems for wealth management platform serving firms and millions of end investors. Architect and implement robust backend services in Go, GraphQL BFF layers, and cloud-native infrastructure.
· Proactively identify edge cases, regulatory constraints, and failure modes during the design phase. Architect high-volume, scalable workflows and design multi-tenant systems with strong isolation and per-tenant configuration capabilities.
· Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers on complex workflows, platform security, multi-tenancy patterns, and compliance-aware development.
· Design systems that meet SEC, FINRA, and SOC 2 compliance requirements through built-in guardrails, auditability, and data retention policies.
· Work effectively with cross-functional teams including product management, compliance, customer integration teams, and executive stakeholders.
· Champion coding standards, thorough code reviews, and development best practices. Drive continuous improvement in platform architecture based on production patterns, operational data, and evolving compliance requirements.
· Own system reliability, implementing comprehensive monitoring and observability, designing robust error handling and validation, and ensuring SLOs
are met for critical services.
Experience
· Strong experience with Go backend services, gRPC, and GraphQL architectures
· Proven track record designing and building multi-tenant B2B2C platforms at scale
· Experience with GCP cloud-native services including Cloud Run, GKE, BigQuery, and Pub/Sub
· Experience with fintech, wealth management, or broker-dealer platforms
· Working knowledge of SEC and FINRA regulations and their impact on platform architecture
· Experience with SOC 2 compliance requirements and implementing them through system design
· Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Spanner in high-transaction environments
· Knowledge of authentication and identity federation using providers such as Cognito, Auth0, or Okta, including SAML SSO implementation
· Experience with authorization systems and relationship-based access control models (e.g., SpiceDB, OPA, Zanzibar-style architectures)
· Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions
· Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform/Terragrunt) preferred
· Experience with correspondent or clearing firm platforms is a plus
· Experience with distributed messaging platforms like Pub/Sub, Kafka, or RedPanda is a plus"
