The Systems Verification Engineering Specialist for Ground Segment will be supporting the development and execution of key system verification and validation plans as part of the overall constellation “Integration, Verification and Validation” (IVV) Strategy of the Telesat LEO constellation Network.

Main Responsibilities:

  • The System Verification Engineering Specialist – Ground Segment: will report to the Director of Constellation System Verification (CSV).
  • They will help to coordinate work between CSV team, Ground Infrastructure teams and functional groups for the Telesat Lightspeed LEO constellation, ensuring the system is ready for deployment, Network Over-The-Air testing (OTA), and System end-to-end acceptance testing.
  • Ground Infrastructure Readiness: With support from the wider CSV team, lead the transition from system development; to system deployment; by coordinating the system readiness planning between the different segment teams and specifically the Ground Infrastructure segments teams.
  • Test Environment Management: Support the development of pre-production and production environments (including transitions between environments) required for initial and full ground infrastructure verification and deployment.
  • Verification Execution: Help to develop and maintain verification strategy, verification matrices, test philosophies, and procedures; participate in hardware/software reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR, TRB & DRB) plus coordination of the CSV led System Readiness Review (SysRR).
  • Integration Coordination: Synchronize Ground infrastructure deployment tasks across segment teams to ensure hardware, software, and documentation are ready in time for satellite deployment.
  • Technical Collaboration: Partner with engineering and cross-functional teams to validate system performance and ensure seamless communication across Ground Segments teams and interfaces with other network operational teams
  • System Readiness Delivery: Ensures all Ground systems meet Lightspeed readiness and early mission objectives through timely delivery and completion of all necessary verification tasks
  • Able to get stuff done: Working within a large multi-disciplinary team, have the ability to identify key issues, develop solutions and drive them to consultation efficiently and effectively

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: BSc/BEng or Master’s in Aerospace, Space Systems, Electrical/RF, or Computer Engineering or a related field
  • Experience: 6–10 years in requirements-based testing/verification for complex Aerospace or Satellite ground communication systems
  • Technical Skills:  Proficiency in project management, configuration control, production and systems quality control, non-conformance management, and system engineering verification protocols
  • Experience in performing deployment of ground system infrastructure for Satellite telecommunication systems, including site commissioning and Over the Air (OTA) testing
  • Satellite telecommunication Integration and test activities, using Electrical and RF test systems (focused on L, Ku, and Ka band systems)
  • System engineering design and development of User Terminal and Landing Station Antenna systems
  • Familiar with Satellite and Network Operations Systems (NOC & SOC)
  • Project or Program Management (PMP) experience of managing complex technical systems and organizing multi-disciplinary technical teams

Working Conditions:

  • Full time role at Telesat’s Ottawa office, with hybrid work environment
  • Working conditions are generally comfortable typical of an office environment
  • Canadian and international travel may be required 

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP)
