Job Responsibilities:

  • DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects the P&F expectations, Cosma’s Visions/Values through Magna’s Employee Charter.
  • Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and Cosma and P&F rules and regulations.
  • Contribute to employee suggestion program, continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • The Tool & Die Apprentice will report and be supervised by the Toolroom Supervisors, Team Leader and Assistant General Manager.
  • Inspect, maintain, repair and modify designated tools as assigned to assist a certified Toolmaker
  • Attend and learn how to operate all toolroom equipment within safety standards and prescribed guidelines.
  • Remove all contaminated production parts when working on emergency calls at the press.
  • Attend and complete with a minimum passing grade of 75%, the government required education
  • Attend college and complete coursework on time and to a high standard.
  • To produce, maintain and be responsible for work details to document experience.
  • To take on additional responsibilities in years two and three of apprenticeship up to working more independently
  • To carry out all necessary administrative work associated with departmental management requirements
  • such as using the PDA’s to accurately and timely record all processes from receiving job through to completion including electronic timesheets.

  • To liaise and work with all other trades and apprentices as required.
  • Maintain a clean orderly work area and job site
  • Interact with the team members running the line to look for improvements or ideas to improve your/their job/task and improve line Safety, Quality and Productivity.
  • Preventative maintenance on equipment – identify weaknesses in design and implement improvements. Take pride in workmanship.
  • Follows the rules of 5 S’s.
  • Have the right to refuse work based on safety or health concerns.
  • Work safely and follow all safety rules at all times.
  • Report any unsafe or unhealthy conditions immediately.
  • Know and understand all Magna, Federal, State and Local legislated duties.
  • Play an active role in maintaining housekeeping in the area and ensure that area of responsibility is clean, tidy and organized at all times.
  • Attend training as required or as assigned.
  • Know what to do in an emergency.
  • Know the operating instructions for all equipment and processes where you are assigned. Know the pre start-up inspection process, hazards, protective measures, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, start and stop procedures and equipment limitations.
  • Attend all physical examinations and tests including those required for respirator use and hearing protection.
  • Be knowledgeable about any chemicals that you work with or that are in your immediate environment.
  • Wear required PPE such as safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, aprons, respirators and head protection.
  • Perform any other duties as requested.

  • Wage rate: $19.54/hour - $33.76 /hour depending on the Apprenticeship stage (progression)
