Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented below is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

Salary range (but not limited to):

59,300 - 72,500

About the role

We’re looking for an Underwriter I, Commercial Lines to join our Auto Underwriting team for a 12-month Secondment/temporary position.

This full-time temporary hybrid position will require you to be in office two (2) days per week and is available at the following offices: London, Ottawa, Ajax, Mississauga, or Toronto (700 University Ave).

What you'll do here:

  • Participate In broker visits, Insurance Industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.

  • Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.

  • Make recommendations to improve the department processes and increase efficiency.

  • Analyze requests for quotes and recommend innovative solutions

  • Focus on building relationships while underwriting and rating policies

  • Provides technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members

  • Assess, evaluate and negotiate on moderate to complex risks.

What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an underwriter or underwriter assistant capacity

  • Candidates with prior Commercial Lines Auto experience will be prioritized

  • Very strong sales and customer service skills

  • Completion of or progress toward a CIP designation is an asset

  • Maintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related thereto

  • Demonstrate the ability to handle complex risks

  • Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues

  • Strong negotiating skills and business savvy

  • Initiative and ability to work under pressure

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
