About the role

We are redefining what an in-house agency is and are looking for a web designer/developer to join the Herd. As an individual contributor within our marketing organization, your primary responsibilities will involve leading the development of user-centric design interfaces on websites for our Tucows Domains brands. You’ll work with our digital marketing manager and creative team to ensure that our code meets security and performance standards and that our website is accessible, free of bugs, on-brand, and optimized for user experience.

Job Duties 

The role involves collaborating with marketing team members and peers across the business, including support, product management, business owners, and partners, to deliver quality web experiences. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Facilitating brainstorming sessions and idea-generation workshops that relate to your core craft.
  • Applying design-thinking methodologies and principles to work.
  • Creating design solutions based on marketing briefs and/or intent requests.
  • Sharing industry design trends and identifying opportunities to integrate new solutions into our designs.
  • Understanding and applying visual techniques to make content more digestible.
  • Using and maintaining our design system and component libraries.
  • Generating wireframes and hi-fidelity mock-ups in a timely manner, with attention to detail (desktop, tablet, mobile).
  • Presenting design concepts and prototypes to stakeholders.
  • Creating compelling visual design solutions that address strategic business and brand objectives across our websites, as outlined in marketing briefs.
  • Leading the development of user-centric interfaces on websites for Tucows Domains brands.
  • Developing modern front-end UI solutions using React.
  • Ensuring code meets security, logging, error handling, performance standards, and other non-functional requirements.
  • Ensuring AODA compliance.
  • Performing website updates and maintenance for WordPress sites, custom CMS, and Webflow.
  • Creating and updating web pages within themes, templates, and custom requirements.
  • Updating and creating scripting for website and data migration needs.
  • Troubleshooting and debugging to optimize performance.
  • Facilitating A/B tests using VWO.
  • Using QA tools such as BrowserStack to find and troubleshoot issues, make necessary changes, and ensure readiness for production.
  • Facilitating quality assurance testing.

Qualifications Required 

  • 5-10 years of combined experience as a web designer and developer.
  • A diploma, degree, or certificate in a related field.
  • Proficiency in React for front-end development, and Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud for design.
  • Experience with modern web development tools, frameworks, and CMS such as WordPress and Webflow.
  • High familiarity with DNS, domains, and other operational systems involved with modern website operations.
  • Knowledge of A/B testing methodologies and tools, such as VWO.
  • Experience with QA processes and tools like BrowserStack.
  • High agility and responsiveness, with the ability to take on tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging abilities.

T​he base salary range for this position is $86,600 to $96,200. Range shown in $CAD for Canadian residents. Other countries will differ. Range may vary on a number of factors including, but not limited to: location, experience and qualifications.
