Position Summary
The Minor Warships and Auxiliary Vessels (MWAV) Program has a current vacancy for an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support delivery execution. Reporting to the MWAV Senior Project Manager, with functional management support provided by the Head of PMO for TCDS, the APM will play a key role in the effective delivery of our contractual obligations, using robust project management processes and principles.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Project Integration & Planning:
Support integration of scope, schedule, cost, risk, and quality activities across assigned areas of the MWAV program.
Maintain alignment between project plans, contractual requirements, and Thales PMO governance.
Manage assigned work packages or discrete project activities under the direction of the Project Manager.
Scope & Change Management:
Support definition and control of project scope in accordance with contract and statement of work.
Assist with development and maintenance of work breakdown structures (WBS).
Support engineering and program change control processes, including impact assessments and documentation.
Schedule Management:
Develop, update, and maintain detailed schedules for assigned scope.
Track progress against schedule baselines and analyze variances.
Cost & Financial Management:
Support cost forecasting, variance analysis, and estimate-at-completion (EAC) updates.
Coordinate with finance and project controls to ensure accurate reporting.
Risk, Issue & Opportunity Management:
Support risk identification, analysis, and mitigation planning.
Monitor mitigation actions and escalate emerging risks as required.
Quality & Compliance:
Support adherence to Thales’ quality standards and contractual requirements.
Assist with preparation for internal reviews, audits, and customer governance forums.
Stakeholder & Communications Management:
Prepare project status reports, dashboards, and briefing materials.
Support communications with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and DND / PSPC.
Coordinate meetings, capture decisions and actions, and track follow-up to closure.
Team Coordination:
Support progress tracking against deliverables by fostering collaboration across project sub-teams and disciplines.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or appropriate certification (PMP/ CAPM) in business or project management
At least 3 years of experience in a project coordination or an assistant project management role.
Experience supporting complex programs in defence, naval, marine, aerospace, or other regulated industries.
Strong understanding of standard project management practices across scope, schedule, cost, and risk.
Proficiency with MS Office suite, particularly Project, Excel, and PowerPoint (or equivalent tools).
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Special Position Requirements
Physical Environment: Hybrid working environment - currently three days in office, 2 days from home
Travel: Occasional travel to Victoria, Ottawa, and Halifax.
The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $90,000 - $115,000 CAD Annual.
This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
