Job Description

MP Kibble is seeking a full-time Communications Assistant to join his Ottawa team.

Key Responsibilities

MP Schedule Management

  • Coordinate and manage the Member of Parliament’s Ottawa calendar, including scheduling meetings, organizing appointments, and preparing and distributing materials and invitations.
  • Book travel and flight.

Social Media & Digital Content

  • Manage and publish content across social media platforms.
  • Monitor social media performance and engagement, recommending improvements.
  • Capture and create photo, video, and graphic content consistent with the Member’s brand.
  • Design graphics tailored for digital, print, and social media platforms.

Rapid Response & Issues Management

  • Monitor news and social media to identify emerging issues.
  • Develop timely responses including statements and media lines.
  • Assess reputational and political risks.

Message Discipline & Approvals

  • Ensure all communications align with House of Commons guidelines and protocols.
  • Coordinate review and approval processes.
  • Maintain consistency across all messaging and platforms.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized institution in communications, journalism, business administration, or a related field.

Experiences:

  • 1-3 years of experience in communications, media, journalism, or a parliamentary setting.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex policy issues into clear and compelling messaging.
  • Sound political judgment and discretion in a high-pressure environment.
  • Digital content creation and online engagement, including experience with design tools (e.g., Canva, Publisher), email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), website content management (e.g., Squarespace), and social media platforms.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines with accuracy and professionalism.

Assets:

  • Experience volunteering or working for a political organization (Federal, Provincial, Municipal, or other).
  • Knowledge of the riding of Cowichan-Malahat-Langford.
