Job Description

The office of Tim Louis, Member of Parliament for Kitchen-Conestoga is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Communications Assistant.

The Communications Assistant in the office of Tim Louis plays a key role in informing, engaging, and supporting constituents, helping them navigate concerns, stay informed on updates, and foster a stronger, more connected community. This position offers hands‑on experience across a broad range of communications activities, providing opportunities to develop and refine skills in writing, digital engagement, media, and outreach.

The role encourages creativity and initiative, offering flexibility to propose new ideas, improve existing processes, and take ownership of communications projects from concept to execution. As part of a small, mission‑driven team, you will work in a collaborative and supportive environment where initiative is valued, and every contribution has a meaningful impact.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead the social media strategy across platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
  • Produce and execute graphic design, video editing, and web design assets across all platforms.
  • Maintain and update the Members’ website.
  • Develop communications products, including social media content, website updates, mailers, email campaigns and newsletters.
  • Ensure adherence to the budgetary guidelines of the communications products.
  • Work closely with the constituency team to support constituents, address concerns, and help resolve inquiries in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of community events to strengthen community engagement.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized institution in communications, journalism, business administration, or a related field.

Experiences:

  • 1–3 years of experience in a communications, marketing, or administrative support role (internships or co‑op placements may be considered).
  • Experience and/or knowledge of basic graphic design and web design principles;
  • Experience with the creation and editing of videos.
  • Experience planning, managing, and maintaining multiple social media platforms, either in a personal or professional capacity (e.g., Instagram, X, Facebook, Reddit, YouTube).
  • Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and work independently in a high‑stress environment.
  • Knowledge of Canadian politics, current events, and the political and environmental climate.

Assets:

  • Experience volunteering or working for a political organization (Federal, Provincial, Municipal, or other).
  • Experience with WordPress.
  • Knowledge of the riding of Kitchener-Constega.
