Purpose of the Role

Telesat is seeking an accomplished Director, Corporate Communications to elevate the company’s global reputation, broaden awareness of our brand, and strengthen engagement with key audiences. This leader will oversee internal and external   communications (excluding investor relations) strategy and execution, media relations, thought leadership, and narrative development across the company.

This is a high-impact role that partners with senior executives and business leaders. This individual will play a central role in telling the Telesat story on a global stage—developing compelling content, securing earned media, and helping to ensure employees across all regions are aligned, informed, and inspired.

Key Responsibilities

    External Communications & Global Brand Positioning

    • Develop and execute a comprehensive corporate communications strategy that amplifies Telesat’s visibility in priority markets.
    • Drive proactive earned media efforts, including story mining, media pitching, press briefings, and editorial calendar management.
    • Shape and protect Telesat’s corporate narrative, ensuring consistency across all communications channels.
    • Lead development of high‑impact thought‑leadership content—including executive bylines, op‑eds, blog posts, and speeches.
    • Manage external agency partners to ensure they are delivering value and achieving key performance targets
    • Cultivate strong relationships with journalists covering aerospace, telecommunications, technology, maritime and government sectors.
    • Provide strategic counsel on communications risks, opportunities, and messaging.
    • Oversee organic social strategy as an extension of communications, ensuring your team maintains brand voice consistency and audience engagement
    • Internal Communications

      • Develop and manage internal communications plans that keep employees informed, engaged, and connected to the company’s mission and strategic priorities.
      • Partner with senior leaders, HR, and cross‑functional teams to plan and deliver internal announcements, leadership messages, change‑management communications and quarterly employee newsletter.
      • Content Development & Storytelling

        • Lead development of press announcements, press events, FAQ development and award submissions
        • In collaboration with marketing communications, develop compelling written and multimedia content that supports corporate announcements, product milestones, customer wins, partnerships, and other strategic initiatives
        • Maintain editorial quality and alignment with brand voice and visual identity
        • Manage content calendar and creation for the corporate blog
        • Reputation & Issues Management

          • Monitor industry conversations, media trends, and competitive narratives to identify opportunities and risks.
          • Support development of crisis and issues‑management communications, including Q&A documents.

Education & Experience Required

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
    • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or media relations—preferably within technology, aerospace, telecommunications, or B2B/B2G.
    • Proven success securing earned media coverage and managing global media relationships.
    • Demonstrated experience crafting high‑impact executive communications and thought‑leadership content. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with exceptional attention to detail.
    • Experience leading internal communications programs for global or complex organizations.
    • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, capable of driving consensus among multiple stakeholders
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment and deliver high‑quality work under tight deadlines.
    • Highly motivated self-starter who can multitask, prioritize, and quickly adapt to changing timelines or priorities
    • Cultural competence required to tailor content to global audiences
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
    • Experience working in media and social monitoring platforms (i.e. Cision/Meltwater)

Additional Requirements

    • Candidates must be able to work in Canada and obtain security clearance
    • Occasional travel may be required. (Less than 10%)
