The role of Business Finance Partner, Centrica Business Solutions (CBS) UK&I focuses on providing support to the Business Finance Director to create value by improving the quality of decisions and ensuring that a chosen business strategy delivers the highest financial benefit at an acceptable level of risk. 

They will represent Finance in the CBS UK&I Leadership Team, take a leading role in holding the business to account for it’s financial targets, pushing business performance and partnering with the business to provide high quality financial planning and analysis. In addition they will lead the partnering with the sales & commercial teams in analysing pre-sale opportunities and ensuring the right commercial and financial decisions are taken by the UK&I Leadership Team.

They will also sponsor the embedding, monitoring and ongoing improvement of control frameworks within the business.

Accountabilities

General

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in CBS UK&I business and across NBNZ Finance teams
  • Act as the key interface with the UK&I Services business to understand the key drivers of revenue, gross margin, opex and capex, to be able to translate complex commercial issues into financial impacts
  • Support the business development and commercial teams in reviewing new contract opportunities and understanding whether the financial return correlates with the level of risk associated with the opportunity
  • Support the wider UK&I Finance team and business by providing robust, insight and analysis to drive improvements in financial performance
  • Lead communications with the UK&I Financial Controller and supporting team, ensuring they have a good understanding of business performance and key judgment areas for month end close.
  • Oversee production of the standard monthly finance deliverables (including performance packs, KPIs) to the agreed format, timeline and quality, supported by clear and focused messaging
  • Line manages 2 direct reports and supports their areas of focus across the lifecycle of CBS opportunities - from pre-sales, through construction delivery and into long term operations of contracts
  • Support risk management activities to ensure the relevant controls are in place throughout the lifecycle of a project opportunity. Act as part of the first line of defence in the identification and management of risks

Plan & Monitor the Business

  • Regularly report performance against Group Annual Plan & latest forecast, delivering strong insights and supporting business review of financial and operational (value driver) variances to identify corrective actions
  • Support delivery of an accurate, efficient and transparent plan/forecast which meets Finance and business stakeholder requirements
  • Develop bespoke reporting and monitoring tools in line with evolving business requirements

Provide Decision Support

  • Carry out non-standard / bespoke analysis to support business decision making
  • Identify performance improvement interventions and design means of implementing associated changes. Facilitate relevant parts of the business to implement changes
  • Prepare and analyse investment opportunities and business cases, demonstrating strong financial rigour, commercial acumen, and risk assessment

Experience

  • Fully qualified accountant from a recognised body (ACA, ACCA, ICAS, CIMA)
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Power BI
  • Previous commercial finance experience in a large organisation including:
    • Communication of analysis and insight across the business
    • Building financial models, creating robust forecasts and budgets
    • Track record of process improvement
    • Experience in decision support and investment appraisal
  • Understanding of the UK energy sector preferred, but not essential
  • Previous experience of working in a construction and engineering environment preferred, but not essential

Location

  • Manchester or Windsor, with ability to travel to Centrica’s offices as required
