The Role

As a Product Owner at Versaterm, you will help shape the mission-critical systems that serve as the backbone for Police, Fire, and EMS. Our Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Systems (RMS) power 911 response, incident management, and the records that keep communities safe. The Product Owner serves as the key liaison between the software development team and the Product Manager. This role is responsible for ensuring that product requirements are effectively communicated, prioritized, and executed by the development team. The Product Owner focuses on managing the product backlog, defining user stories, and facilitating Agile processes to deliver high-quality software products that align with the broader product strategy defined by the Product Manager.

What You’ll DoCollaboration with Product Manager
  • Work closely with the Product Manager to understand the product vision, goals, and high-level roadmap.
  • Translate the product strategy into actionable tasks for the development team.
  • Provide feedback on feasibility, timelines, product metrics, and technical considerations to support product planning.
  • With the Product Manager, deliver complex software products from concept to launch as well as support continuous improvement on existing products.
Backlog Management
  • Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring items are well-defined, estimated, and prioritized.
  • Create clear and detailed user stories with acceptance criteria based on requirements provided by the Product Manager and stakeholders.
  • Continuously refine and update the backlog based on team feedback, changing priorities, and user insights.
Development Team Support
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the development team, clarifying requirements and priority and resolving any questions during sprints.
  • Support agile processes by attending Sprint Ceremonies and ensuring clear delivery of work for refinement and sprint planning.
  • Collaborate with development to ingest technical debt.
Stakeholder Alignment
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager, Business Analysts, Designers, and other stakeholders to gather input, define priorities, and manage expectations.
  • Represent the voice of the customer to the development team and ensure features deliver maximum value to end-users.
Quality Assurance
  • Review completed work to ensure it meets defined acceptance criteria and is aligned with the product vision.
  • Partner with QA and testing teams to validate that deliverables meet quality standards.
Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze and evaluate development team processes, making recommendations for efficiency improvements.
  • Use product metrics and team feedback to refine the backlog and adjust priorities.
What You’ll BringRequired Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CSPO, SAFe PO) are a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Product Owner or in a similar role in software development and 5+ years business experience
  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks, particularly Scrum or Kanban.
  • Proficiency in writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and maintaining a product backlog.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like JIRA, Confluence, or similar.
  • Technical background or hands-on experience with software development processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Impress Us With
  • Experience with Aha! Product Management software
  • Familiarity with software engineering concepts such as technical architecture, APIs, databases, and cloud platforms.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with Public Safety software such as Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) or Records Management Systems (RMS).
