About this Role

The Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution and financial performance of assigned construction projects from start-up through completion. This role works closely with management, clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and in accordance with contract requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Review estimates, contracts and specifications and establish project budgets, schedules and execution plans.
  • Lead pre-construction meetings and coordinate project start-up requirements, including permits, locates, drawings, shop drawings and procurement.
  • Coordinate labour, equipment, subcontractors and suppliers with the Superintendent to meet project requirements.
  • Monitor progress, quality and scope compliance through regular site visits and inspections.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Manage the financial performance of the project, including cost tracking, coding, forecasting and monthly projections to completion.
  • Review and approve project costs, purchase orders, subcontractor invoices and payment documentation.
  • Manage change orders and claims, including costing, documentation and required contractual notifications.
  • Communicate potential financial impacts, risks and other issues to management.

Project Administration & Communication

  • Ensure project documentation, permits, drawings, locates, safety documentation and other required records are maintained and communicated appropriately.
  • Coordinate progress payment submissions and supporting documentation with Accounting, clients and subcontractors.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal teams, clients, consultants and external partners throughout the project lifecycle.

Leadership & Safety

  • Promote and support company and legislative health and safety requirements in collaboration with the Health & Safety team.
  • Supervise, mentor and support Project Coordinators, including providing guidance on day-to-day project matters.
  • Work closely with site leadership to address issues, maintain productivity and ensure project requirements are met.

Project Close-Out

  • Ensure deficiencies are addressed, site cleanup is completed and all contractual requirements are satisfied.
  • Review final project financial performance and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement.
  • All other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, B.A.Sc. (Civil Engineering) or Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma or relevant diploma/degree is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Project Manager, in the heavy civil sector would be preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and meet firm deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Project) as well as working knowledge of Autocad.
  • Previous experience with HCSS and eCMS project software would be highly desirable.
  • Must have a strong attitude towards safety and work within company policy and legal requirements for Health, Safety & Environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Possess strong conflict resolution skills, with the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and ability to analyze building drawings/blueprints.
  • Project Management designation (PMP) is considered an asset.

Physical/Sensory Effort and Work Environment

  • Construction environment can be difficult conditions, loud, busy and will also require both outdoor and indoor work.
  • Manual dexterity required. Moving from site to site in construction areas can be challenging.
  • Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation
