Build effective test automation that helps deliver reliable, high-quality technology through complex application modernization.

The Role

Capco is looking for a QA Automation Engineer with hands-on experience in SmartBear TestComplete and Playwright to support a major application modernization initiative.

You’ll focus on building, maintaining and executing automated tests that help ensure applications continue to perform reliably as legacy technology, dependencies and supporting components are upgraded. Working across Java/Spring applications, Linux and Windows environments, you’ll combine practical automation expertise with established software quality assurance methodologies.

This is an intermediate-level, hands-on QA role where you’ll work closely with developers and wider technology teams to identify issues early, strengthen automated test coverage and support the delivery of reliable software throughout the development lifecycle.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, maintain and execute automated tests using SmartBear TestComplete, ReadyAPI and Playwright across application modernization and testing activities.
  • Create functional, integration and regression test automation to validate application behaviour, identify defects and maintain quality throughout technology upgrades.
  • Test Java applications built with Spring and Spring Boot across Linux and Windows environments, using Linux shell scripting where required.
  • Collaborate with developers and technology teams throughout the Agile lifecycle, contributing to quality from design and development through testing, deployment and production release.
  • Investigate, document and track defects while maintaining test assets and supporting reliable releases using relevant test management, source-control and delivery tooling.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–6 years of software quality assurance experience, including hands-on test automation experience using SmartBear TestComplete and related SmartBear tooling such as ReadyAPI.
  • Proficiency with Playwright, with practical experience building, maintaining and executing automated tests.
  • Demonstrated understanding of software QA methodologies, tools and processes, with experience working throughout an Agile software development lifecycle.
  • Experience testing Java applications built with Spring/Spring Boot, alongside Linux and Linux shell scripting and exposure to both Linux and MS Windows host environments.
  • Experience validating data using relational databases including Oracle, MS SQL Server and DB2, with exposure to T-SQL and stored procedures, plus tools such as Git, GitLab and Nexus.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience testing applications written in Python, JavaScript, React or Node.js.
  • Experience using TestRail or similar test management tools.
  • Experience with Selenium or comparable test automation frameworks.
  • Experience with or knowledge of AWS.
  • A university degree or college diploma in computer science, quality assurance management, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Why Join Capco
